Do you know who, and when took the very first photo of the Earth from space

🚀The answer is V2 rocket; on October 24, 1946, with a camera installed on its board, it was launched from the White Sands missile range in the United States. As the rocket reached its maximum altitude of 105 km, the camera was taking shots every 1,5 seconds. The rocket then fell in the desert of New Mexico; the camera broke but the film encased in a steel container remained intact. The shot was blurred and grainy, but nevertheless, it became the very first photo of Earth from space.

🙂The first photo of Earth taken by a human, not a device, was captured by Soviet cosmonaut German Titov. During his flight on August 6, 1961, he took the very first color photo of Earth and made a film demonstrating what our planet looked like from space.

🥈The 2023 Stenin Contest's runner-up (“Top News” nomination) was this single photo, From Pastoral Songs to the Sea of Stars.

On November 12, 2022, the Long March 7 Y6 rocket blasted off the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in China's Hainan Province. It was carrying Tianzhou 5, the final cargo spacecraft essential for finishing the construction of the China Space Station.
Taken from an open village site next to the cosmodrome, the photo caught the precise moment of the rocket's launch. The Space Station required the Tianzhou 5 cargo delivery to bring in supplies and wrap up its construction by the end of 2022. China undertook a series of space launches in 2021 and 2022 to advance its Space Station deployment.

Pu Xiaoxu (China) who took the photo, graduated in 2010. Currently, he holds the position of a reporter in Chinese media. From 2017 to 2019, he was a reporter and photographer at Beijing Youth Daily. In late 2019, he started working as a photographer at Xinhua.

Can you tell the duration of the world's longest photo session? It lasted for 5845 days.

Munish Bansal set a world record for the “most consecutive days photographing one person”. He took photos of his daughter from the moment of her birth in 1996 till her 16th birthday in 2012. Following that, Munish put together a 12-minute video using the photos, which is now accessible online.

Our Contest has a special nomination for such photo stories. And what photo series have you thought of making?

🌷Happy May Day!
There are different names under which the International Workers’ Day is celebrated around the world, but whatever the name, it is associated with the topic of labor. In the USSR, it was known as the “Day of International Solidarity of Working People”. In present-day Russia, it is the “Holiday of Spring and Labor”. See the controversy? On the one hand, it is the “day of labor”, and on the other hand, it is a public holiday.
