How do we control the flight?

-Control of an aircraft is on three axes: yaw, pitch and roll.

●Rudder controls Yawing (left/right)

●Elevators control pitching (nose up/down)

●Ailerons control rolling

Bernoulli's principle:

-Air, like water, is a fluid; however, unlike water, which is a liquid, the air is a gaseous substance. Air is considered a fluid because it flows and can take on different shapes.

-Bernoulli said that it is the shape of the wings which helps aircraft to achieve lift. They are shaped so that that air flows faster over the top of the wing and slower underneath. Fast-moving air equals the low air pressure, while slow-moving air equals high air pressure. The high air pressure underneath the wings will, therefore, push the aircraft up through the lower air pressure.

Law and disorder{1/2}

Context
◆The Supreme Court finds itself in a similar predicament. The citizens of the country expect the institution and its constituents to be ideal, and the challenge of the Supreme Court is to come to terms with that reality.
◆However, it is not the Supreme Court alone that matters in the justice delivery system.
◆As a result of the unrelenting focus on the anguished knocks at the doors of the highest court, and the other inadequacies of the system do not get as much public attention.

Background
●Most often, the issue of spending on the judiciary is equated with a call for increasing the salaries of judges and providing better court infrastructure.
●India has one of the most comprehensive legal aid programmes in the world, the Legal Services Authority Act of 1987.
●Under this law, all women, irrespective of their financial status, are entitled to free legal aid. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and children too are entitled to free legal assistance.
●This means that a significant proportion of the population falls — or is supposed to fall — under a free legal aid regime. However, in reality, this law is a dead letter.
●There has been little effort on the part of successive governments to provide a task force of carefully selected well-trained and reasonably paid advocates to provide these services.
●In comparison, the system of legal aid in the U.K. identifies and funds several independent solicitor offices to provide such services.

Problem faced by Indian Judiciary system
◆The judge-population ratio provides one of the most important yardsticks to measure the health of the legal system.
The U.S. has about 100 judges per million population. Canada has about 75, and the U.K. has about 50. India, on the other hand, has only 19 judges per million people.
◆Of these, at any given point, at least one-fourth is always vacant. While much is written on vacancies to the Supreme Court and the High Courts, hardly any attention is focused on this gaping inadequacy in lower courts which is where the common man first comes into contact (or at least should) with the justice delivery system.
◆These inadequacies are far more critical to the common man than the issues relating to the apex court that are frequently highlighted in the public space.
◆In All India Judges Association v. Union of India (2001), the Supreme Court had directed the Government of India to increase the judge-population ratio to at least 50 per million population within five years from the date of the judgment. This has not been implemented.

Access to justice
●Though ‘access to justice’ has not been specifically spelt out as a fundamental right in the Constitution, it has always been treated as such by Indian courts.
●In Anita Kushwaha v. Pushpa Sadan (2016), the Supreme Court held unambiguously that if “life” implies not only life in the physical sense but a bundle of rights that make life worth living, there is no justice or other basis for holding that denial of “access to justice” will not affect the quality of human life.
●It was for the first time that the Supreme Court had attempted a near-exhaustive definition of what “access to justice” actually means.
●Further, the court pointed out four important components of access to justice. It pointed out the need for adjudicatory mechanisms.
●It said that the mechanism must be conveniently accessible in terms of distance and that the process of adjudication must be speedy and affordable to the disputants.
●It is, of course, a paradox that this judgment, which emphasises the concept of speedy justice, was passed in 2016 in a batch of transfer petitions that were filed between 2008 to 2014.

Law and Disorder {2/2}

Conclusion

◆The state in all its glorious manifestations — the executive, judiciary and the legislature — is yet to draw out a national policy and road map for clearing backlogs and making these concepts real.

◆These are just a few of the issues crying for attention. Increasing tribunalisation of the justice delivery process; the extortionate court fees payable to access justice in civil suits in some States; and the poor integration of technology into the system are some issues that readily come to mind.

◆A disproportionate amount of attention that is given to the functioning of the Supreme Court, vital as it is, distracts from these and similar issues.

◆Let us assume that the apex court achieves the distinction of being “ideal” in the near future, of being all things to all people. Still, a fine mind alone is of little avail if the rest of the body lies disabled, as the justice delivery system is today.

Basic Idea or Swing Bowling

◆The basic idea of swing bowling is to sway the cricket ball as it moves towards the batsman. The most important factors to achieve this are:
•The amount of wear and tear
•The speed of bowling
•The grip of the bowlers

◆A swing bowler generally uses three swings:  conventional,  reverse   and contrast swing.

Conventional Swing Ball
●The new cricket ball is needed to swing best before it experience of any wear and tear. It should have a high quality seam, with one shiny side.
●The bowler needs to hold the ball along the seam.Hold it with your middle and index fingers  on the other side of the seam, with the ball resting on your thumb and third finger. The shiny side should face in the direction of the batsman.
●Now let loose the ball with the seam pointing to the direction of   the inswing  ball sways from the leg side toward the off side.  The outswing ball sways from the leg side is an outswing.
●A conventional swing works  best between 30 and 70 mph.

Reverse Swing Ball
●A ball that is used at least 40 overs is helpful. A new ball swings naturally in a conventional direction, but at about this time, the ball that wears on adjusts its aerodynamics. It starts on swinging in the opposite direction of seam, towards the shine.
●Keep the ball in good form. With the smooth side of the ball it becomes very smoother and rough side becomes rougher,  the reverse swinging ball works well.  You need to shine the smooth sides of the ball.
●Polish the smooth side of the ball throughout the play. Keep in mind, however, the rub the rough side constitutes tampering, and is unlawful.

Contrast Swing Ball
●Use a ball with a better seam.Like the previous two swing types, one side should be distinctly shiny, and the other side should be clearly rough. Maintain the dryness of the ball as far as possible.
●Hold the ball along the seam.Hold it with your middle and index fingers on either side of the seam, with the ball resting between the  thumb and third finger.
●Bowl by the seam pointing straight down the pitch. The course of the swing is determined by the speed at which it is thrown.

Do finish all these psych tests in the prescribed time and attempt all and share your attempts(numbers only) on the group.
Daily practice is easy but attempting the real test format with real timings is bit challenging and you have to attempt with positivity and determination.

And compilation of all SRTs and WATs which have been discussed on the group earlier on daily basis, takes plenty of time.So do some justice to your efforts as well as ours.

It's advised to every candidate to be truthful to themselves and do some serious self-analysis.

India-Israel Defence Cooperation:

◆Israel has been among the top four arms suppliers to India for almost two decades now, notching military sales worth around USD 1 billion every year.
◆Indian armed forces are inducting the next-generation Barak-8 surface-to-air missile systems under three joint DRDO-IAI projects worth over Rs. 30,000 crore.
◆The Indian armed forces have inducted a wide array of Israeli weapon systems over the years, which range from Phalcon AWACS (airborne warning and control systems) and Heron, Searcher-II and Harop drones to Barak anti-missile defence systems and Spyder quick-reaction anti-aircraft missile systems.
◆The acquisitions also include a host of Israeli missiles and precision-guided munitions, from Python and Derby air-to-air missiles to Crystal Maze and Spice-2000 bombs.

Kamov-226T : Utility Helicopters

Why in News-The Indian Army is going to approach the Defence Ministry for a waiver to take the Kamov-226T (Ka-226T) utility helicopters with Russia.

●In 2015, India and Russia concluded an Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) for 200 Ka-226T helicopters estimated to cost over USD 1 billion.
●The Kamov-226T is meant to replace the ageing and obsolete Cheetah and Chetak fleets of the Indian Army and the Air Force.

Design: The Ka-226T is a design of Russia's famed Kamov design bureau.
Assembling: A joint venture India Russia Helicopters Limited (IRHL) has been set up between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Russian Helicopters (RH) which will assemble the helicopters in India.
Payload Capacity:It is a light helicopter, with a maximum take-off weight of over 3.5 tonnes and can carry a payload of up to 1 tonne.
Special Features:The Ka-226T uses coaxial rotors, that is, it has two sets of rotors mounted one on top of the other and typically no tail rotor.
•Coaxial rotors give a helicopter improvements in lift and payload capacity over conventional choppers.

●This is especially advantageous in high-altitude environments where an aircraft's performance at take-off tends to diminish due to the lower air density.
●The Ka-226T also has a unique, detachable 'mission' compartment instead of a conventional cabin.
●This allows the helicopter to be adapted for different roles such as surveillance and cargo delivery.

Issues with the Old Fleet of Helicopters:
•About 75% of the Army’s fleet of Cheetah and Chetak helicopters is over 30 years old.
•Some of them are about 50 years old and they need urgent replacements.
•Operational capability has been impacted due to deficiencies and non-availability of replacement.
Requirement of Helicopters in Indian Army: There is a requirement of around 400 such helicopters in the army.
