Importance of PIQ form in SSB Interview

◆PIQ form is very important as it has crucial information about the aspirant, so interview questions in SSB interview are generally asked from whatever you write in your PIQ form.

▪️What is PIQ form?

●PIQ stands for "Personal Information Questionnaire," a set of basic questions written on a paper required for an interview with your SSB. These questions are helpful for evaluators to judge you better. By reading the PIQ they understand your personality after knowing certain things about you.

●The Personal Information Questionnaire (PIQ) contains some basic information about the qualifications, achievements and family background of the candidate, etc. After clearing the screening test, a candidate is required to fill two copies of the same.

▪️Role of PIQ played in SSB interview:

●The PIQ is a candidate's first impression with the IO and psychologist. An impression of carelessness is given by a form that is hurriedly written or has too many cuttings and over writings or gives incomplete information. It is therefore important for candidates to fill in the form properly.

●The PIQ provides basic candidate background information. However, it will not be able to give any insight as to the attitude of the candidates towards life and work, whether they are likely to get along with people, whether they can adapt to the service environment, their problem areas, social activities, and leadership potential, etc.

●Candidates must carefully provide the information in the PIQ and be prepared during the interview to share logically their experiences and lessons of their participation in all the activities they mentioned in the PIQ.

▪️How to fill PIQ form correctly in SSB interview:

◆Take your time and carefully fill the PIQ form.

◆Write clean and neat, write the correct thing in the correct place.

◆Furnish all the details - education qualification, responsibilities held, hobbies, etc.

◆Avoid cutting & overwriting

◆Keep achievement in a chronological manner.

◆Practice filling the PIQ form before going to SSB Interview.

▪️What does the PIQ form reveal?

◆Remember that a good PIQ is like the candidate's letter of recommendation. SSB assesses a candidate's future by analyzing his past. Your events in life will make it easy for you to face the hard life of the armed forces.

◆Cutting and overwriting reveals that the candidate lacks clarity in thoughts and has a careless attitude.

◆Following a proper order while writing responsibilities and achievements reveals good organizing ability.

◆A person who has an ample amount of responsibilities, hobbies and achievements, extra-curricular activities is a social person and can adjust easily with others.

◆Hobbies and interest reveal a lot about personality. Hobbies that are productive and creative generate interest of the interviewer.

▪️Questions that are directly asked from PIQ:

◆What is your name, the meaning of your name, the meaning of the names of other members in your family, compare yourself to them, the name of your place of origin.

Family: How many members since the description and kind of relationship with each member, closer to whom, closer to whom, closer to whom you admire when living in the same place. Compare with any of your brothers or sisters. What do you prefer to have an elder / younger brother/sister if you're alone? Family worker occupation, if you work what your job profile, salary, etc. is.

Education: an institution where you completed your schooling, since when any achievements, any responsible position held in the institution during your education, represented the institution at what levels, subjects you liked the most and those you didn't like at all, why, teachers, you liked the most and those you didn't like at all, why (including teachers and subjects up to all these years of education and education). What are you doing at the moment, what are the additional options (if not the army), why, why, since when the army liked?

Friends: What kind of friends you like, what kind of friends you don't like, where you've gone and where you want to go with your friends, why are these people your friends, describe your best friend, compare him with you (appearance, height, texture, thinking, something common in both of you), their hobbies and interests, the way they live and what they want to achieve in life.

◆How do you spend your time, your hobbies and interests?

◆How would you organize a competition for football / hike / cycle / local festival / trek / swimming?

Aim of Rapid Fire Questions:

◆The purpose of Rapid Fire questions is to judge your overall personality, mental stamina, power of expression, patience, logical reasoning, confidence, and grasping ability.

◆Interviewing Officer will first make sure you are comfortable enough and then begin with rapid-fire questions. His aim is to ask you 10 to 15 questions at one go. He might interrupt you in between your answers. You are expected to answer all the questions with the same speed and order

◆A Candidate is expected to be quick, audible and confident. Rapid-fire questions can be related to your friends, education, family, your teachers, subjects, sports you like, your interests, etc.

◆All of the questions are simple and easy to answer. Everything asked is based upon the info provided in your PIQ form and Self-description test.

▪️Here are some Tips and Tricks to tackle Rapid Fire Questions

●Keep your hands on your thighs and count the number of questions on your fingers or in your mind, without being noticed by the IO to remember the number of questions asked by the Interviewing Officer.

Note-Practice this trick with any of your friends before going for the actual interview. Only then, you will be able to implement it precisely.

●Pay attention to the IO very attentively. Remember the questions by keywords for example:-

●You need to practice this trick to be efficient during the actual interview.

●It is okay if you forget a few questions, but try to stick to the same order in which IO asked the questions.

●If you are able to answer more than 10 questions in the same sequence out of all 5 questions, you will be good. Interviewing officer just wants to check your memory and presence of mind.

●All you need to display is that you can retain information under pressure.

Importance of English in SSB and further Defence Career

●English communication is not only important SSB or Defence only but also plays important role in other sectors of work.

●All the verbal and written tests in SSB are conducted in the English medium. One must have good spoken English in order to do well in the interview.

●An Officer is expected to be well versed in English so that he/she could instruct their troops well and report to seniors.

●A good leader must have a gift of gab and officer are leaders, Sam Manekshaw Sir is a brilliant example.

●Power of efficient expression is an OLQ that is expected from an officer and English plays a very important role to do so.

●English is considered a global language so good knowledge can help in foreign missions & bilateral exercises with other nations.

✔️Why Most the Students struggle with English Communication

◆One primary reason is that we are inclined towards our native languages and don’t focus on the basics of English.

◆Another one is, it is very common that students who speak English are often discouraged or mocked by their friends.

◆Those born and brought up in families and surroundings where English is less spoken also suffers from fluency.

◆Due to default brain settings, many of them think of their ideas in their native language and then translate them to English, and hence gets stock.

◆Lack of knowledge of the importance of English in a professional career at early stages is also a reason.

✔️Tips to Prepare English for SSB Interview

We can divide the whole learning process into the following parts

〰️Part 1: Reading

●Start reading the newspaper or some novels to develop interest.

●Whenever find a new word, underline, note and learn where to use it.

●Use those words in writing or while speaking. Invest at least 30 min. Everyday.

〰️Part 2: Writing

●Start writing in the English language as writing helps to recall it in future.

●You can also frame the answers to some common questions asked in the interview as well it will definitely help in the future.

●Writing down ideas helps in finding grammatical errors.

●Try writing down your views on the latest social topics. That will serve the purpose of improving language and adds to your knowledge.

〰️Part 3: Listening

●Listening will help us to improve pronunciation.

●Speaking with proper phonetics creates a good impression on the listener.

●Listening also teaches proper usage of words.

●Listen to great speakers, watch English documentaries, English songs, movies, etc.

〰️Part 4: Speaking

●Speaking is the combined result of all the above efforts.

●What we read, write, or listen to are reflected by what we speak.

●Speaking practice make us comfortable and enhance our fluency.

●Speaking skills can be improved by narrating a topic, PPDT story or lecture topics.

●Develop a group of friends with whom you can talk in English only.

●Don’t bother about peoples who mock you for speaking the wrong English, rather improve your skills every day.
