More than 30 people have been arrested and £17,000 (€20,200) of suspected criminal assets seized in a people-smuggling crackdown in Northern Ireland.
A heavy goods vehicle related to an unpaid penalty notice over stowaways, worth £144,000 (€171,000), was also seized.
The arrests of 33 illegal migrants and suspected people smugglers were part of a three-day operation to tackle criminals exploiting the common travel area (CTA) at ports and airports in Northern Ireland, north-west England and Wales.

▫️Climbing instructor jailed for child sex abuse
A climbing instructor who sexually abused children during lessons has been jailed.
Alan Ellinson, 68, exposed himself and asked his students to reach into his trouser pocket for sweets, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
The offences against four children, aged between 10 and 14, took place between 2013 and 2015 when Ellinson owned and worked at his family-run climbing instructing business in Stockport.
Ellinson, of Poynton, Cheshire, denied indecent exposure and inciting sexual activity with children but was found guilty and given a five-year sentence.

▫️Paedophile, 37, due for release locked up for longer as victim comes forward
A paedophile will spend another 30 months behind bars after a victim came forward again to report more horrific sex abuse. Jake Knight was convicted of child sex offences in April 2022.
Having served over half of his original six-year sentence, Knight was originally due for release on licence from HMP Risley in Cheshire on March 31. But Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard further offences against a child came to light which had not been reported to authorities at the time of the initial allegations.

Andrew Wolverson, 73, was visited by Cheshire Police at his home in Northwich carrying out a random compliance check on 13th November last year after he had been behind bars at least three times before.

The District Court of Lapland has sentenced a 40-year-old man to four years' unconditional imprisonment for shocking acts. The man was convicted of aggravated sexual abuse of a child committed between 2020 and 2022 and child rape committed in January 2025. The victim was the man's own daughter. She was only 9 years old when the sexual assault began. The District Court of Lapland held that the acts were aggravated because, among other things, the child was young and dependent on the care of his abuser. The man denied all the charges. In addition to a four-year prison sentence, the man must pay his victim €13 000 for the suffering caused, €1 500 for pain, suffering and temporary inconvenience and more than €5 000 for costs, including legal fees.

The North Savo District Court has convicted a 40-year-old woman and a man of shocking sexual offences against a child. A man born in 1980 and a woman born in 1984 raped a 10-year-old child for months in Kuopio. They also produced and distributed sexual material from the child. According to the district court, the man and the woman had and attempted to have sexual intercourse with the child, who was born in 2013. In a decision handed down on Friday, the court sentenced both perpetrators to ten years in prison. The woman was convicted of aggravated child rape and of distributing a sexually explicit image of a child. The woman was convicted of distributing the material from February to December 2024, while the man was convicted of aggravated child rape, possession and distribution of a child sexually explicit image. The latter two offences were committed over a period of a few months, from February to April 2024. The two were ordered jointly and severally to pay the victim a total of €35 000 for damages and €1 500 for pain and suffering.
