▫️Israel Police arrest Harish mayor suspected of sexual offenses
Israel Police arrested the mayor of Harish, Yitzhak Keshet, on suspicion of committing sexual offenses, obstruction of justice, and breach of trust, the police said on Monday.
According to allegations, Yitzhak Keshet sexually assaulted and harmed several women, some of whom worked with him in the municipality, exploiting his position of power.

▫️Authorities detain traffickers smuggling migrants from Pakistan to Europe through Libya
In a statement, the apparatus said the suspect was caught in the act while transporting three illegal migrants from Tripoli to Al-Zawiya. Investigations led to the identification of other members of the network, with one arrested and a search ongoing for the network’s ringleader.
The apparatus added that the smuggling network operates in cooperation with partners in Pakistan, where each migrant pays approximately $3,500 to be brought into Libya via Benina International Airport. Once in Libya, the migrants are gathered in Tripoli before being sent by boat toward European Union countries.

▫️Police rescue 33 West Africans from a human trafficking scam in Ivory Coast
DAKAR, Senegal — Police raids have rescued 33 West Africans from a human trafficking ring in Ivory Coast that lured people into paying fees and providing coerced labor by promising them jobs in Canada, the international police agency Interpol said Tuesday.
Victims paid as much as $9,000 to supposed recruiters who instead trafficked them to the city of Abidjan in the Ivory Coast, where they were held under physical and psychological coercion, the agency said in a statement. Scams of this type are increasingly common in West Africa and police forces across the region have conducted mass raids in the past including the arrest of over 300 people in 2024.

The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) reported that in 2024, at least 15 female detainees were subjected to gender-based violence by authorities during the investigation process.

▫️Church sexual abuse survivors’ group calls on next pope “to do what Francis refused”

A major support and advocacy group for survivors of church sexual abuse, the Survivors Network for those Abused by Priests, or SNAP, marked the death of Pope Francis on Monday, calling his papacy a “preventable catastrophe for the children and vulnerable people who were abused during his tenure.”
The group said it drafted a letter to deliver to Pope Francis last month that urged him “to use his remaining time to implement a true zero-tolerance law that includes independent oversight of bishops.” On Monday, SNAP called for the next pope to have no history of covering up sexual abuse, and the group demanded that he “institute a zero tolerance law for sexual abuse that immediately removes abusive clergy and leaders who have covered up abuse from ministry and mandates independent oversight of bishops.”
