ISIS Cells Continue To Attack Key Highway In Western Iraq
ISIS cells in the western Iraqi province of al-Anbar continue to threaten a strategic highway that links the country’s capital, Baghdad, with both Jordanian capital, Amman, and the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The highway passes near the town of Rutba, which is located some 100 kilometers away from the border with Syria and less than 125 kilometers away from the border with Jordan. There is still some traffic on the highway in the direction of Amman. However, the road to Damascus is currently blocked by a US garrison in the southeastern Syrian area of al-Tanf.
On March 3, ISIS terrorists carried out three attacks on the highway. One of the attacks targeted a post of the Iraqi military near the 120 Kilometer point, to the east of Rutba. The terrorists raided the post then targeted a Humvee armored vehicle that was sent by the military as reinforcements.
The other attacks targeted two Humvee armored vehicles which were passing on the highway. Both vehicles were allegedly damaged. ISIS’s news agency, Amaq, shared photos from the attacks on March 9.
These were not ISIS cells’ first attacks on the highway. On February 24, the terrorists ambushed two vehicles of the Iraqi military near the 20 Kilometer and 40 Kilometer points, both located to the east of Rutba. Several Iraqi soldiers were allegedly killed or wounded.
By threatening Iraq’s main highway to Syria and Jordan, ISIS cells are attempting to expand their influence in al-Anbar. The province’s vast desert, which surround a long strip of the highway, is known to be the main stronghold of the terrorist group in Iraq.
The Iraqi military, security forces and pro-government formations are yet to take action to secure the highway and Rutba. The situation there may deteriorate even further in the upcoming months.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Put Second Military Satellite Into Orbit
On March 8, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (#IRGC) successfully put a second military #satellite, the Noor 2, into orbit.
The Tasnim news agency said that the IRGC successfully launched the satellite with a three-stage satellite carrier, dubbed Qassed. The operation was carried from a launch pad located in desert in Shahroud, in the northeast region of Iran.
Noor 2 is currently orbiting at an altitude of 500 kilometers. The satellite will allegedly be used for remote-sensing and reconnaissance operations.
Following the successful launch of Noor 2, Space Commander of the IRGC’s Aerospace Force, Ali Jafarabadi, revealed that Iran is planning to send a series of military satellites into orbit over the coming years.
"We will launch a series of Noor satellites in the coming years. The space program of the country, of which we are a part, is to stabilize various scientific, research and Defence satellites in low-earth orbit and then reach orbit of 36,000 kilometers above land," Jafarabadi said.
Iran’s first military satellite was launched on 22 April 2020, also by the IRGC. The satellite, Noor 1, reached an orbit of 425 kilometers above the surface of the Earth.
The successful launch of the military satellite came amid progress in the international talks on Iran’s nuclear program. The IRGC apparently wanted to send a message of strength. A relaunch of the 2015 nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, is reportedly near.

Israeli Army Releases Footage Showing Interception Of Iranian Drones Carrying Weapons To Gaza
On March 7, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) declassified footage showing the interception of two alleged Iranian drones carrying weapons.
The drones were shot down by F-35i fighter jets from the Israeli Air Force’s 140th Golden Eagle Squadron and 116th Lions of the South Squadron outside Israel airspace on 15 March 2021. This was the first time F-35is have been used to take down a drone. The incident was only made public very recently.
“The interceptions of the UAVs were carried out prior to them entering Israeli airspace in coordination with neighboring countries,” the military said in a statement released on March 6, without naming the countries due to security concerns.
According to the #IDF, the two drones were on a secret mission to deliver weapons to the Hamas Movement in the Gaza Strip.
The military said that the drones were of the Shahed-197 type, an Iranian copy of the US highly-secretive Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel stealthy drone. Using electronic warfare, the Iranian military took control of an RQ-170 and managed to landed intact on 5 December 2011.
The Shahed197 has a flight range of 2,000 kilometers, a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour, and a wingspan of seven meters. The drone can carry a payload of dozens of kilograms, per the IDF.
Photos of the drones’ wreckage released by the IDF show several handguns, ammunition and a number of unidentified vials.
A third Iranian drone carrying weapons was reportedly downed around the same time by the IDF using electronic warfare means.
This was not the first time Israel has accused Iran of using drones to deliver weapons to its allies. Last November Israel accused Iran launching a drone from Syria into Israeli airspace on 10 February of 2018, to ferry explosives to cells in the West Bank. The drone was also a copy of the RQ-170.
The Israeli revelation came amid reports of a near international agreement on the relaunch of the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal. #TelAviv appears to be using the incident to mount some pressure on the ongoing nuclear talks.
In what appears to be another attempt to hinder the talks, two officers of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were killed in an Israeli attack that targeted positions in the suburbs of the Syrian capital, Damascus, on March 7. The guards vowed to make Israel “pay” for the attack.

Houthis’ Air Defenses Shot Down Another US-Made ScanEagle Drone Over Yemen
On March 8, a US-made Boeing Insitu ScanEagle drone was shot down by the #Houthis (Ansar Allah) over the northwestern Yemeni province of Hajjah.
In a brief statement, Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari said that the drone was shot down with a “suitable weapon” while it was conducting “hostile acts” over the district of Harad.
The district of Harad, which is located right on the border with Saudi Arabia’s Jizan province, is today one of Yemen’s hottest fronts. Yemeni forces backed by the Saudi-led coalition have been attempting to advance in the district for more than a month now, to no avail.
Footage released by the Houthis indicate that the downed drone was of the ScanEagle 2 variant, which has a top speed of 148 kilometers and an endurance of more than 16 hours. The ScanEagle 2 mainly used for reconnaissance missions.
The US military or intelligence may have been using the downed drone to spy on Houthi forces in Hajjah in support of Saudi-backed forces. Another possibility is that the drone was launched by the Saudi military, who reportedly purchased the drone in secret.
This was the fourth ScanEagle 2 drone to be shot down by the Houthis’ air defenses over Yemen since the beginning of the year. The first and second drones were shot down over the district of al-Jubah in the central province of Ma’rib on January 30 and February 25. The third drone was shot down over Harad in Hajjah on February 28.
The Houthis have been developing their air defense capabilities for the last few years. Today the group’s air defenses pose a real threat to the air forces of the Saudi-led coalition and its allies.

Two Iranian Revolutionary Guards Were Killed In Recent Israeli Attack On Syria
Two officers of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in Israel’s last attack on Syria, the Iranian force announced on May 8, vowing revenge.
"Guard colonels Ehsan Karbalaipour and Morteza Saidnejad were martyred — a crime committed by the Zionist regime during a rocket attack in the suburbs of Damascus, Syria,” said a statement issued on Sepah News, the IRGC’s website.
The attack, which took place early on Mach 7, targeted two positions in Damascus’ northeastern suburbs. One of the positions was allegedly a marble factory.
At a press briefing, Oleg Zhuravlev, deputy chief of the Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria, said that the attack was carried out by fighter aircraft of the Israeli Air Force.
"Four F-16 tactical fighter aircraft of the Israeli Air Force delivered an airstrike upon Syrian territory with eight cruise missiles from Lebanon's airspace at 6:05 AM on March 7," Zhuravlyov said. "Syrian air defense forces on duty successfully destroyed seven missiles.”
The Iranian officers were not the only victims of the Israeli attack. Two soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), Khaled Ghazi Ghazieh and Ali Muhammad al-Nassar, were also killed.
This was Israel’s first attack on Syria this March. The most recent attack, which took place on February 24, also targeted the outskirts of Damascus. Back then, three service members of the Syrian Air Force Intelligence Directorate were killed.
The March 7 attack will likely lead to a dangerous military escalation. The IRGC has already vowed that Israel “will pay” for killing its two officers.
In the past, the Iranian force responded to Israeli attacks on its service members in Syria by launching attacks on the Israeli occupied Syrian Golan Heights or US bases in Syria. Tel Aviv, who will not tolerate any Iranian response, will likely hold the SAA responsible from any attack from Syria’s territory.

Soviet-Made, Jet-Powered Drone Was Shot Down Over Ukraine (Photos)
On March 8, Ukrainian sources shared photos showing the wreckage of a Soviet-made Tupolev Tu-141 "Strizh" drone that was shot down over an unspecified part of Ukraine.
The Tu-141 is a large, medium-range reconnaissance drone that first entered service in the 1970s. It was designed to conduct reconnaissance missions behind the front lines at transonic speeds.
The drone could be equipped with several types of payloads, including film cameras, infrared imagers, electro-optical imagers and imaging radar.
The Tu-141 has a cruise speed of 1,000 kilometers an hour, a range of 1,000 kilometers and a service ceiling of 6,000 meters. The drone, which is powered by a KR-17A turbojet engine, is launched from a trailer using a solid-propellant booster and landed with the aid of a tail-mounted parachute.
The downed Tu-141 was most likely Ukrainian. The Ukrainian military returned its Tu-141 into active service in 2014 War in Donbass.
The old drone will not likely pose any challenge to Russian fighter jets and air defenses, which have shot down 93 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine on February 24.
In Russia, Tu-141 drones remain out of service. However, the Russian military may be using them in Ukraine as decoys to trick and test the remaining air defenses of Ukraine. The military has been using Eniks E95M aerial targets in this role.

Ukrainian National Guard Was About To Attack Donbass - Secret Documents Found By Russian MoD
Written by Piero Messina
The Ukrainian National Guard was in the process of attacking the Donbass regions. This was claimed by the Russian Defense Ministry which in the course of the combat actions of these days came into possession of classified documents attributed to the Kiev General Staff.
The military operation against the two self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk should have been triggered in March. The documents reconstruct the attack plans and are considered secret orders given by the commander of the Ukrainian National Guard, Colonel General Nikolai Baden.
The documents are dated January 22 of this year and were addressed to the heads of the northern Kiev, southern Odessa and western territorial departments of the National Guard of Ukraine.
The order , brought to the command of the National Guard of Ukraine, explains the plan for preparing one of the shock groups for offensive operations in the so-called “Joint Forces Operation” zone in Donbass.
By order of the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, the battalion tactical group of the 4th operational brigade was trained to perform combat (special) tasks within the framework of the Joint Forces Operation as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The document approves the organizational structure of the battalion-tactical group of the 4th operational brigade of the National Guard, the organization of its comprehensive support and reassignment to the 80th separate air assault brigade of Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry points out how since 2016, this formation of the air assault troops of Ukraine has been trained by American and British instructors under the “NATO standard” training programs in Lvov.

"On the night of March 9, Ukrainian nationalists brought about 80 tons of ammonia to Zolochiv north-west of Kharkiv. According to the residents who left Zolochiv, the nationalists teach them how to act during a chemical attack. This indicates that Ukrainian nationalists are preparing a provocation using toxic substances to accuse Russia of allegedly using chemical weapons," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
In the south of the country, the situation remains fairly stable. In the Zaporizhya direction, the UAF are holding the defense along the Kamenskoye-Orekhov-Gulyai-Pole-Velikaya Novoselka front line.
Mykolaiv is preparing for the siege of the city; Odessa is waiting for the landing of the Russian assault forces.
Russian forces continue to strengthen control over settlements in the regions that have come under their control. Italy takes part in the anti-Russia "deterrence" device with the Baltic Task Group deployed in Latvia as part of the multinational NATO emergency battalion led by Canada and which also includes Albania, Iceland, Montenegro, Poland, the Republic Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. "Faced with a deteriorated perception of security and following a specific request made by the Baltic countries and Poland, NATO has deemed it appropriate to strengthen its presence on the eastern flank of the Euro-Atlantic space, by launching an enhanced Forward Presence (eFP ) ", Explained the Italian Ministry of Defense Guerini, adding that" The eFP is a measure of a defensive nature, proportionate and fully in line with NATO's international commitment and represents a clear example of the determination to carry out the primary mission of collective security of the Euro-Atlantic territorial integrity against any possible aggression and threat, as well as the reaffirmation of cohesion and solidarity between member countries.
The Italian Air Force was also called upon to do its part against the Moscow bear. Since early December 2021, in Romania, four fourth generation Eurofighter 2000 interceptor fighters have been operating on the "Mihail Koglnicean" base in Constanta with flight crews from the 4th Wing of Grosseto, from the 36th of Gioia del Colle, from the 37th of Trapani-Birgi and from the 51st of Istrana.
In recent months, the exercises and advanced projection activities in the eastern Mediterranean of the war units of the Navy have multiplied, both within NATO and in agreement with the navies of partner countries. The last operation of disruptive muscular visibility ended a few days ago (Neptune Strike), with the involvement of the aircraft carrier "Cavour", flagship of the Italian Navy, and two nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, the "Uss Harry Truman "Of the US Navy and the" Charles de Gaulle "of the French one. From 21 February to 4 March it was the turn of "Dynamic Manta 2022", NATO war games in which fighter-bombers, anti-som patrol vessels and naval units will hunt down nuclear-powered and capable submarines submerged in the Strait of Sicily and in the sea.
