In 45 years of teaching ministry, I have never seen the camp of truth banging the drums for a debate. It has always been the camp of error demanding that they be given the opportunity to prove how stupid the truth is. I have seen this over and over again with those who hate on the pretrib rapture, premillennialism, eternal security, dead to the law in Christ, etc.

Error seems to puff men up with pride: intellectual pride, hyper-spiritual pride, and esoteric-insight pride. This pride bangs the drum for a debate. It claims that men are afraid to debate them. But the truth is, what rational man wants to debate with such pride and spite? Pride that has rejected much of the data. Pride that resorts to ad hominem argument and soundbites rather than robust exegesis. Debating such men is like trying to be friends with a rabid, barking attack dog.

Know Them by Their Fruits

The Bible emphatically states concerning false teachers, “You will know them by their fruits” (Matt. 7:16). There is far more instruction in this dictum than meets the eye for many Christians. This is not merely a different way of saying that you can know bad teachers by their bad doctrine. This actually gives us a further test for discerning them. This says we can know the propagators of false doctrine by their fruits—i.e. by such things as the way they deal with people, the way they handle the Bible, and the way they treat the facts.

I don't mind objective discussions on matters of doctrine or discernment, but if someone calls me divisive, heretical, blasphemous, or any like term, or labels me a liar, false prophet, deceiver or any like term merely for disagreeing with teachings like the prewrath rapture, falling away, KJV Only, or flat earth, they will be blocked.
