The Lord has two parallel programs in the tribulation (the day of the Lord). His program in dealing with Israel to sift and purify her. And his program to sift and judge the Gentiles. That said, Israel is sometimes called a goy or nation in the Bible, which is why the early Fathers and the ancient rabbis sometimes spoke of the people and the peoples.

The people = Israel.
The peoples = the Gentiles.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Rev 22:18-19
18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;
19 And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
