The Assyrian invasion brought great devastation (darkness), but the people still had great reason to hope (light has dawned). The verbs in this section are in what is often called the “prophetic perfect.” Though the events were in the future, they are described as if they had already happened. Isaiah 9:1-2 is quoted in Matthew 4:15-16 in reference to Jesus’s ministry.

You can't understand what is going on in America unless you first understand that while the Bible believing Christian has much more in common with the political right than with the political left, yet the both the right and the left are part of the problem. The right has often expedited the expansion of Big Brother government in the name of protecting America, and she is currently expediting various aspects of Big Brother government right now. While the hard-left Marxist version of the new world order has been dealt a harsh blow here in America, the America-first version of the new world order is going forward at Mach speed.
