Don't be bullied. Addressing error is not, in and of itself, attacking brothers or dividing the body. Error raises such accusations because it can't answer the objective arguments that challenge it. Its only option for defense is to smear the challenges as attacks or division.

When men balk at plain statements of Scripture, historical facts, clear grammatical rules, and the overwhelming evidence of the data, you can rest assured that a spirit of error has convinced them that "truth" is more important than the facts.

One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is to resolutely refuse to do shallow research. Many of the errors we fight today would evaporate in a hurry if men verified their sources and quotes, exposed selective presentation of data, and weighed both sides carefully.

Few things profit a Christian more (as far as truth is concerned) than examining both sides of every controversy they get involved in. Typically what happens is Christians coast along on an issue, then get wowed by the first deep book they read on that issue. This is problematic in principle, even if this convinces them of the truth sometimes.

I have been reading Michael Filipek's "The Missing Key" and have strong reservations against his understanding of imminence, which rejects prophetic convergence. I absolutely believe in prophetic convergence. I absolutely believe that we see the stage being set in the world around us for the coming tribulation and that this stage setting tells us that the rapture is near. The rapture and the tribulation are in a fixed relationship. Nothing in this stage setting or in the last days scenario in the Scriptures gives us sufficient information to determine the day or hour of the rapture, nor even the year. But they absolutely do give us all the information we need to recognize that we are fast approaching the end of the age and that we can expect the rapture soon.

The toughest part of many doctrinal controversies is recognizing and rejecting the presuppositions that inveigh against the plain statements of Scripture.
