The German Hospital Association is sounding the alarm: a large number of clinics are in dire financial straits.

We are now recording significantly more insolvencies. And 2024 could be a record year, said the head of the association Gerald Gass.

Gass also recalled the 40 cases of insolvencies of hospitals in the FRG in 2023.

A primer on basic logistics:

Average human being needs about 4 liters of water per day, or about 4 kilos. Average soldier consumes far more, but we'll stick to conservative numbers and use civilian consumption. Average field ration weighs about 0.7 kilos for a 1 of 3 per day meal, or 1.7 kilos for a single 24 hour ration pack.

1 loaded AK-47 magazine is a little shy of an additional 0.5 kilos of expendable ammo per magazine. Typical soldier carries around 9 mags, so that's another 8 kilos of consumable weight give or take.

So we're already at 10 kilos for daily water, food, and ammunition (the latter applying to hard contact zones only) per soldier.

So for a single company of infantry engaged in hard contact there is a necessity to transport a bare minimum of at least 2.4 metric tons of supply each and every single day. This is not accounting for toothpaste, shaving cream, razors, floss, toilet paper, showers, underwear, socks, etc.
Just water, food, and expended ammo (weight of magazine subtracted), assuming the unit in question is not "rationing" or "running out of ammo but holding in". This doesn't account for the mass of fuel for transport vehicles, assault vehicles, tanks, or additional weight loads of ATGMs, drones, or anything else.
I think it's safe to say that for a modern combined arms Battallion, the minimum daily logistics weight-load for transport is easily three times such.

These are the numbers moving across the field every single day that it takes to breach and defend combat lines. This is also why Russia is "moving slow", while Ukraine tried to move fast and found out the hard way.
