▪️Newsweek, in a now familiar pattern, is softening the inevitable loss of Avdeevka by describing it as a "wasteland, " implying it has no value;
▪️It claims Russia has lost nearly 9,000 troops in November (300/day) citing dubious Ukrainian sources;
▪️As with Bakhmut, the claim is "while Russia took the city, it has no value, it did so "too slowly," & lost 1,000s of troops in the process," implying it was a "trap" laid by Ukraine;
▪️If any of this were actually true, Ukraine wouldn't be shifting to the defensive, mobilizing its whole population, and NATO wouldn't be talking about "bad news" & the possibility of uncomfortable negotiations;
▪️In reality, this is Russia's strategy, incremental gains leveraging its advantages in long-range fires, larger supply of ammunition, larger variety of combat capabilities to grind down Ukrainian forces while preserving its manpower & equipment;

I am increasingly convinced that my conspiracy theory, according to which the Kiev leadership is specially disposing of the most combat-ready units so that they do not become an open front and ensure a new Maidan, is not so far from the truth.
Fox holes in which dead soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces lie, buried, torn to pieces, abandoned by everyone, a sort of apotheosis of war for four brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces marines.
