American negotiators have spent the past year and a half trying to push Ukraine toward capitulation on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s terms, but Kiev is still resisting thanks to military support from European states.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas made the remarks on October 20 during a plenary debate at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. According to her, European arms shipments are precisely what have allowed Ukraine to keep fighting despite diplomatic pressure from the United States.

«Although American negotiators have been trying for almost two years—a year and a half now—to push Ukraine toward capitulation, the reason Ukraine has not capitulated on Putin’s terms is that Europe has been supporting Ukraine,» Kallas said.

🇺🇸 Pentagon expands F-35 orders, signaling potential military buildup

The Pentagon has struck a 10-year deal with Lockheed Martin for the production of 850 F-35 stealth fighter jets.

While neither of the sides specified a value for the agreement, the F-35 versions could cost over $100 million per plane.

Air & Space Forces Magazine reported the following production costs in September 2026:

🔴 F-35A – $92 million

🔴 F-35B – $121.4 million

🔴 F-35C – $110.8 million

Using the average price, 850 aircraft would cost approximately $91.8 billion. In addition to F-35s, the agreement also includes "initial spares, ten years of modification kits and sustainment, and international customer orders," according to Lockheed. The Pentagon’s framework agreement still requires congressional approval.

The F-35 program has repeatedly faced criticism from US lawmakers over cost overruns, delays, and hardware and software flaws. During the war with Iran, one F-35 was heavily damaged in March. In July, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it had destroyed three F-35s and damaged another three during a ballistic missile attack on Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan.
