❗️Israel seeks to extend nationwide emergency status until 6 October

The Israeli government is moving to extend the nationwide "special situation on the home front" until 6 October, citing security assessments that there remains a "high probability" of attacks on civilians amid continued uncertainty surrounding Iran and Lebanon, Maariv reported.

Although no Home Front Command restrictions are currently in force, the emergency declaration preserves broad powers to impose shelter orders, restrict schools, and introduce other civil defense measures at short notice if the security situation deteriorates.

The emergency status has been in effect since 28 February, when Israel launched its unprovoked war against Iran, and would remain active for more than seven consecutive months if approved. Government legal advisers acknowledged that such a prolonged emergency raises legal concerns but concluded it remains justified based on current "security assessments."

The extension still requires approval from the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, while officials say the declaration could be lifted or scaled back should conditions significantly improve, according to Maariv.

Iran Warns U.S. It Has New Carrier-Killer Weapon

Iran has successfully tested a new weapon against a United States aircraft carrier, a spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on September 21, without identifying the weapon or saying whether the ship was hit.

IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi said the test was part of the Islamic Republic's efforts to expand its military capabilities.

The IRGC spokesman also warned, "If a new attack occurs, we will use other weapons in addition to this weapon" against the U.S.

Iran already fields anti-ship ballistic missiles, including the Khalij Fars and Zolfaghar Basir, which have reported ranges of about 300 and 700 kilometers respectively.

❗️Netanyahu slams Mamdani despite mayor's softened stance against PM's NY visit

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attacked New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday, accusing him of supporting Hamas and “inciting unrest against Jews in New York,” after Mamdani reiterated his support for enforcing an International Criminal Court arrest warrant against the prime minister.

“Shame on you, Mr. Mamdani,” Netanyahu said.

“Shame on you for supporting the Hamas terrorist monsters who brutally massacred our people. Shame on you for inciting unrest against Jews in New York. I am coming to the UN. I will tell the truth about our heroic soldiers and the truth about you.”

Netanyahu’s remarks came after Mamdani told CNN on 21 September that he continued to regard Netanyahu as a “war criminal and architect of the horrific genocide against the Palestinian people” and said the Israeli prime minister was not above the law and should be held accountable under the ICC warrant.

The exchange comes despite Mamdani adopting a softer position on protests surrounding Netanyahu’s visit to New York for the UN General Assembly. On 16 September, Mamdani said he would not attend demonstrations against Netanyahu and denied encouraging New Yorkers to protest, while maintaining that residents had the constitutional right to do so.

“I do not have any plans to attend any protest at the UN General Assembly,” Mamdani told reporters, adding that he had been in contact with the NYPD and that “right now, there are no expected threats that we know of.”

Asked why he would not join demonstrations given his previous criticism of Netanyahu, Mamdani said he had already made his position clear.

“When it comes to the UN General Assembly, my focus is ensuring that our city remains prepared to host representatives from across the world to keep New Yorkers safe.”

Mamdani also rejected the suggestion that he had encouraged residents to demonstrate against Netanyahu.

“To New Yorkers, I have never encouraged them to protest. What I have always told them is that they have the right to do so in the city. We respect that right.”

Mamdani had previously told supporters frustrated by his inability to arrest Netanyahu that protest was a legitimate option for New Yorkers. In July, after a legal review concluded that the city lacked the authority to enforce the ICC warrant, he said protest was one way residents could express their opposition to Netanyahu’s visit.

❗️WSJ: Trump administration floats $10 billion Gulf reconstruction fund amid war on Iran

The Trump administration has proposed contributing $5 billion toward a new $10 billion investment fund to help rebuild Gulf energy infrastructure damaged during the US-Israeli war on Iran, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Under the proposal, the US would seek matching contributions from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, and Jordan, with the fund, named the Partnership for Allied Trust and Construction (PACT), intended to finance the reconstruction of pipelines, refineries, and other critical energy facilities while reducing regional dependence on the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the WSJ, the initiative reflects Washington's recognition that the seven-month war has severely disrupted global energy markets and left regional infrastructure heavily damaged. However, several Middle Eastern officials questioned the timing of the proposal, arguing that rebuilding before reaching a peace agreement with Tehran would be premature, as newly constructed infrastructure could remain vulnerable to Iranian missile and drone strikes.

The report says the war has forced Gulf states to accelerate efforts to develop alternative export routes after repeated attacks damaged refineries, oil fields, gas terminals, and Saudi Arabia's East-West bypass pipeline, pushing more crude shipments back through the Strait of Hormuz. Continued disruptions in the Red Sea, including recent Ansarallah operations against Saudi energy facilities, have also strained global shipping, increased tanker demand, and driven freight costs higher.

Analysts cited by the WSJ said Gulf states increasingly believe the Strait of Hormuz is unlikely to return to its pre-war role in the near future and are seeking more secure energy corridors. At the same time, they warned that new overland routes could create fresh regional dependencies and complicate political relations between participating states, making implementation of the proposed fund both strategically significant and politically challenging.

❗️US President Donald Trump has informed his advisers that he would like to arrange a meeting with Iranian officials who are currently in New York for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), "if the conditions are right," according to a US official familiar with the matter who spoke to CNN.

The official said a meeting could also take place with some of the president’s senior advisers accompanying him in New York, though no such meeting has been scheduled at this time.
