๐บ๐ธ๐จ๐ณThe US remembered Latin America could choose China
Marco Rubio arrived in Ecuador with $45 million in security funding, additional naval capabilities and more support against organised crime. Washington is also pushing for closer economic ties with Ecuador, Colombia and Peru.
Over the past two decades, China has emerged as a significant purchaser of Latin American commodities, financing infrastructure projects and expanding into the mining, energy and port sectors. Countries that once had far fewer alternatives now have another major partner to work with, giving them more leverage when dealing with Washington.
๐ช๐จ Ecuador: Chinese money, American boats
๐ Chinese policy banks provided Ecuador with more than $18 billion in financing over more than a decade, including loans linked to oil deliveries.
๐ Chinese companies built Coca Codo Sinclair, the countryโs 1,500 MW hydroelectric plant and its largest power project.
Rubio is now offering security funding, naval support, intelligence cooperation and closer work against cartels. None of that requires Quito to step away from China. Ecuador can keep its economic relationship with Beijing and still ask Washington for more on security and trade.
๐ต๐ช Peru: China is already part of the supply chain
๐ China is Peruโs largest trading partner, with copper at the centre of the relationship.
๐ Chinese companies operate major mining projects including Las Bambas and Toromocho.
๐ COSCO has put $3.5 billion into Chancay, giving Peru a major new Pacific gateway to Asian markets.
For Washington, this is much harder to unwind than a change of government or a diplomatic disagreement. Chancay is already there, the mines are operating and the trade flows already exist. The US now has to compete around that reality rather than pretend it can replace it.
๐จ๐ด Colombia: Washington kept the security ties, China added another option
๐ China is Colombiaโs second-largest trading partner and has expanded into infrastructure and energy.
๐ Colombia joined the Belt and Road Initiative in 2025.
At the same time, decades of counter-narcotics work, military cooperation and intelligence sharing still tie Colombia closely to the US. Colombia does not need to choose one relationship and abandon the other. It can use both.
We previously covered how US influence evolved in Latin America after USAID. This is what China has changed for Washington in Latin America. Beijing does not need to replace the US across the region. It only needs to make sure governments have another serious option.
Ecuador can take Chinese investment and American patrol boats. Peru can trade through Chancay while keeping ties with Washington. Colombia can work with US security agencies and expand business with Beijing at the same time.
The more US and China compete for access, the more room Latin American governments have to bargain with both.

๐พ๐ช๐ธ๐ฆ - Ansarullah struck Saudi's East-West oil pipeline at Pumping Station 8, near Medina, west Saudi Arabia.
Massive plumes of smoke are visible, with fires blazing for at least 8+ hours.
The pipeline was intended to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. With the pipeline reportedly ruptured and al-Houthi forces controlling Mocha on the Bab el-Mandab coast, the oil market could spiral into chaos. Crude prices have already been climbing throughout the day in response to the developments in Yemen.

Ansar Allah forces have captured the towns of Dhubab and Murad, completing the liberation of Yemen's entire Red Sea coastline.
The Aden-based units refused to let the withdrawing troops enter with their weapons โ a standoff that exposes just how completely the anti-Houthi coalition has fractured.
The UAE and Saudi Arabia spent years building competing forces in southern Yemen, and now those forces are pointing guns at each other while Ansar Allah consolidates behind them.

โ๏ธTrump says war on Iran will end after midterms, claims US is holding back full assault
US President Donald Trump admitted during a Fox News interview that Washington is deliberately withholding a full-scale military onslaught against Iran to safeguard political leverage ahead of the 3 November midterm elections.
Trump went on to dismiss any notion of strategic remorse over the ongoing US aggression, stating that he would repeat every action taken and predicting the war will wrap up shortly after the polls close. He also brushed off reports that the confrontation could stretch until the end of his term as inaccurate.
Defending the current scale of aggression while acknowledging that Iran retains a missile inventory, Trump claimed the military campaign successfully dismantled Iranian nuclear ambitions that he alleged posed an existential threat to regional stability.

โ๏ธHezbollah fighters waged fierce underground defense of strategic Ali al-Taher ridge against invading Israeli forces
Israeli occupation forces reportedly destroyed a sprawling 5.4-kilometer network of underground tunnels beneath the Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, deploying roughly 1,100 tons of explosives after months of intense combat.
According to a Maariv report citing military sources, the multi-decade subterranean infrastructure, was attacked by Israel following an operation involving Israeli commando units and the Yahalom combat engineering corps.
Throughout the prolonged offensive, occupation troops faced stiff resistance from dozens of entrenched Lebanese resistance fighters who engaged in close-quarters combat rather than surrendering the strategic high ground.
Despite intense bombardment and heavy encirclement tactics by the Israeli army, the fighters maintained defensive positions while securing vital supply routes under severe fire. Occupation officials acknowledged that the fighters rejected ultimatums to surrender, choosing instead to hold their positions along the crucial southern defense corridor.

If Iran had nuclear weapons, we would have reached out to them and said, "Sir, could we meet?"
We would treat them completely differently. (We wouldnโt attack them.)
Sigh.
