🇺🇸 President Trump has postponed a major escalation against 🇮🇷 Iran due to a shortage of Patriot missiles, according to The New York Times.

The Pentagon has reportedly expended more than 1,200 Patriot interceptors—each costing over $4 million—reducing stockpiles to critically low levels. A large-scale strike could have triggered a harsher Iranian response while further weakening U.S. air defenses.

Following consultations with his advisers, Trump opted for a less risky course: continuing negotiations and maintaining economic pressure.

The war has now lasted nearly five months. Trump had promised a short "excursion". What the US has instead is a grinding conflict that has killed 18 American service members and wounded 500+.

The Pentagon's official figures are disputed. Iran's IRGC claims over 200 US troops killed. Nevertheless, the rend is unmistakable: the war is getting bloodier, not cleaner.

In a May interview, Trump claimed Iran's navy had been sunk and the country was "militarily defeated". Yet the war continues. If the enemy is defeated, why are American soldiers dying?

A July Reuters/Ipsos poll found only 37% back US strikes on Iran, and half say the war "has not been worth its cost". 🇸🇦🛢 The Red Sea chokepoint: Saudi oil's last escape route narrows

Saudi Arabia's vast oil exports now increasingly depend on a single narrow escape route - the Suez Canal, as conflict in the Strait of Hormuz and now the Red Sea continues to redraw global energy flows, the WSJ reports.

Since the Iran war began, the kingdom has rerouted oil through its Red Sea terminals, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz and sending shipments through Bab al-Mandeb to Asia.

♦️ Saudi Arabia has used its East-West pipeline to boost Red Sea shipments from roughly 700,000 barrels per day to 4.9 million—equivalent to about 5% of global supply

♦️ Of that, roughly 3.5 million barrels per day have been sailing through Bab al-Mandeb, mostly to Asia

But Houthi attacks on Saudi vessels in recent days are now threatening that workaround, forcing Saudi barrels onto a longer, costlier journey through Egypt's Suez Canal and around Africa.
