Some high-ranking Israeli officials are beginning to express concern about the escalation of the situation around Iran, the rising costs of the military campaign, and the damage to the region and the global economy, writes The Washington Post.

A prolonged war could trigger a global economic crisis and affect Trump, who dragged the United States into the war without public support.

The article notes, citing an Israeli official familiar with the planning and strategy of the war with Iran, that discussions are already beginning about an alternative to Trump's call for "unconditional surrender":

"I'm not sure it's in our interest to fight until the regime is overthrown. No one wants an endless story," said one Israeli official to the publication.

According to him, "of course, we want to overthrow the regime, but that's not the only ultimate goal. Iran will not surrender, but it may send signals about agreeing to a ceasefire on US terms," suggested the source.

He expresses a viewpoint shared by some representatives of Israel's defense department. This group of people is disappointed with Netanyahu's determination to continue hostilities without a clearly defined ultimate goal and remains skeptical of his strategic planning.

"We don't see anyone who could replace the regime in Iran," said an Israeli official, summarizing the position supported by American and Israeli intelligence analysts.

According to him, the centralized command and control structure of the regime is weakening, but there's nothing that would indicate its imminent collapse. He also doubts the feasibility of arming the Kurds or other minorities, as this would alienate the Persian majority.

Israeli military planners are also concerned about two other factors.

The first is the risk that Netanyahu will order large-scale ground operations in Lebanon to complete the destruction of the Iran-backed Hezbollah. The second is the fate of the partnership with the US if the war drags on.
