A classified assessment by the U.S. National Intelligence Council concluded that even a large-scale American assault on Iran would be unlikely to topple the Islamic Republic’s military and clerical establishment.
The report, completed about a week before the U.S. and Israel launched their war on Feb. 28, contradicts President Donald Trump’s stated goal of “cleaning out” Iran’s leadership and installing a new ruler.
According to officials familiar with the document, U.S. intelligence expects Iran’s system to maintain continuity even if Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were killed. Established succession protocols within the clerical and military structure are designed to preserve the state.
The report also assessed that Iran’s fragmented opposition is unlikely to take power.

- This is further complicated by the fact that 98% of the gallium for the systems comes from China to the global market.
