Armed men in military uniforms from private military companies are now guarding the "shadow fleet" tankers in the Baltic Sea, according to the Swedish Navy.
As Sveriges Television reports, the Swedish Navy has information about the presence on board of Russian "shadow fleet" ships of armed personnel, presumably from private military companies.
In addition, the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy has significantly expanded its presence in the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea, especially in several special zones adjacent to the waterways. Most likely, these maneuvers are also aimed at protecting oil tankers.
It should be noted that the presence of armed guards on tankers has not yet been confirmed by objective footage, however, over the past year, there have been several incidents involving the detention and attempted detention of "shadow fleet" vessels in the Baltic Sea (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), which would have led to the appearance of private military company fighters on board and more active maneuvers by the Russian Navy.
