❗️Hongkong Post issues a statement regarding suspending delivery to the US

"The Government of the United States (US) announced earlier that it would eliminate the duty-free de minimis treatment for postal items despatched from Hong Kong to the US and increase the tariffs for postal items containing goods to the US starting from May 2. The US is unreasonable, bullying and imposing tariffs abusively. Hongkong Post will definitely not collect any so-called tariffs on behalf of the US and will suspend the acceptance of postal items containing goods destined to the US.

Regarding the surface mail, due to the longer shipping time, Hongkong Post will suspend the acceptance of surface postal items containing goods destined to the US with immediate effect (April 16). Where senders have posted surface postal items containing goods that have not yet been shipped to the US, Hongkong Post will contact the senders to arrange for return of items and postage refund starting from April 22.

Regarding the air mail, Hongkong Post will suspend the acceptance of air postal items containing goods destined to the US starting from April 27.

For sending items to the US, the public in Hong Kong should be prepared to pay exorbitant and unreasonable fees due to the US's unreasonable and bullying acts. Other postal items containing documents only without goods will not be affected"

❗️Hongkong Post won’t accept US-bound parcels anymore

Postal service suspends land and sea delivery with immediate effect, while airmail packages will be turned away from April 27

On April 8, Trump signed an executive order tripling tariffs on goods worth less than $800 sent from China, including Hong Kong. As it stands, packages under $800 have been exempt from tariffs through the exemption.

Initially, those goods were set to face tariffs of 30% come May 2. But Trump’s latest executive order hiked the rates to 120% last week (or a “per postal item” cost of $100 starting May 2, which goes up to $200 on June 1).

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is leading the strategy, with hopes of reaching agreements with Japan, the UK, Australia, South Korea, and India.

📈 In the ongoing trade war between Washington and Beijing, US tariffs on Chinese goods have reached 145%, while China’s duty on American goods stands at 125%.

🇺🇸🇮🇱🇸🇾The United States has notified Israel of its intention to begin a gradual withdrawal of troops from Syria within two months.

This was reported by the Israeli news portal Ynet.

According to the publication, Israel tried to prevent this decision, but Washington made it clear that it was not going to change its plans. Nevertheless, the Israeli military continues to seek a review.

One of the options under consideration is a partial withdrawal of US troops, a senior official said, as Israel fears that US actions will increase Turkey's influence in the region.

Donald Trump’s China trade war a ‘boon’ for Brazil but sends US farmers reeling

The US and China’s dizzying tariff tit-for-tat has spurred Brazil’s agricultural sector and pummelled American farmers, as Beijing looks to Latin America’s largest economy for a swath of goods from soyabeans to beef.

Brazil was a major winner in President Donald Trump’s first trade war with China, dramatically expanding its then-narrow lead over the US as Beijing’s biggest food supplier. It now looks set to pull further ahead, with exports to China already surging before Trump hiked his tariffs on the country by 145 per cent and Beijing added levies of 125 per cent.

“It is a boon for farmers in Brazil and Argentina, and it will help their industry a lot,” said Ishan Bhanu, lead agriculture analyst at commodities data provider Kpler. “The ramifications of this will be longer lasting than the actual measures — in Asia, countries will build better relationships with South America.”

With Europe looking to put tariffs on American soybeans, beef, and poultry. There will be competition and higher prices for Latin American production.

China and Vietnam sign 45 cooperation agreement deals today in the face of Trump’s tariffs

Chinese President Xi Jinping called on Vietnam to jointly oppose “unilateral bullying” to maintain the stability of global free trade and supply chains, as Beijing aims to strengthen ties in Southeast Asia on the leader’s first overseas trip of the year.

Xi urged the two countries to work together to push for economic globalization that is more open, inclusive and balanced to all, Chinese state media Xinhua News Agency reported on Monday. Xinhua cited Xi’s remarks during meetings with Vietnam’s top leadership, including Vietnamese Communist Party chief To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

“China’s mega-market is always open to Vietnam,” Xi was quoted as saying by Xinhua, adding that he also called on the two countries to steadily advance cooperation in infrastructure construction, to enhance connectivity.

The two countries signed a total of 45 deals covering areas including connectivity, AI, customs inspection, agricultural trade, culture and sports, livelihood, human resource development and media, Xinhua said. Leaders of the two countries agreed to establish a committee for railway development between the two nations in a bid to boost cooperation in that area, according to a separate report by Vietnamese state media VTV.

Vietnam is seeking to further strengthen cooperation with China in security, transport and securing preferential loans as well as technology transfers from China, VTV said. Hanoi also expects more balanced trade with its neighbor, it said.

Xi landed in Vietnam days after Donald Trump raised tariffs on China but gave everyone else — including Vietnam, which is negotiating over its 46% rate — a 90-day pause.

Since the first US-China trade war, Vietnam has emerged as a major beneficiary, with manufacturers relocating operations across the southern border to avoid tariffs imposed by the US. Investment from China has poured into Vietnam’s northern industrial parks, where companies including Foxconn and Luxshare Precision Industry Co. have large factories making components for brands such as Apple.

Vietnam’s economy is heavily reliant on Chinese parts and raw materials, and the two sides are working to develop infrastructure to connect them more closely. China is Vietnam’s largest bilateral trade partner, with commerce totaling over $205 billion last year, and is a major market for Vietnam’s agricultural products from fruit to seafood, cashew nuts and coffee.

Vietnam’s government has vowed to speed up the progress of three railway projects connecting the two countries. This includes the $8.4 billion cross-border railway that will link the northern border city of Lao Cai to Hanoi and Haiphong port city.

If the US’s goal is to isolate China economically it may be too late. China has surpassed the US in much of the world as the main trading partner for many countries.
