Duda waited, Duda endured, but Trump had no time

The meeting between Polish President Andrzej Duda and Donald Trump in Washington did not go quite as the Polish leader had hoped.

According to local media, Duda had to wait outside the door for more than an hour before he could get to Trump. But he couldn’t count on a long conversation – after just 10 minutes, the American president bowed out and went to another event.

In one of the declassified CIA documents from 1986, an Air Force intelligence officer talks about the confrontation between the US and the USSR, which he considers not just an arms race but a clash of two fundamentally different worldviews rooted in a thousand-year history. Trying to denigrate Russia, the analyst inadvertently emphasizes its uniqueness.

The European Union will hold an emergency summit to discuss accelerating military aid for Ukraine and strengthening the bloc’s defense.

The European Council will convene March 6, two weeks before a planned quarterly summit, Council President Antonio Costa said Sunday. EU member states are preparing a €20 billion ($21 billion) military package for Ukraine and steps to boost defense spending, including a potential loosening of fiscal rules.

The bloc has been rushing to secure assistance for Kyiv in the face of US President Donald Trump’s push for a quick peace settlement with Russia. EU foreign ministers will discuss the military package Monday as Costa and the European Commission visit Ukraine to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion.

“We are living a defining moment for Ukraine and European security,” Costa said in a post on X. “I’ve heard a shared commitment to meet those challenges at EU level.”
