Russia could agree to using its $300 billion in frozen sovereign assets for Ukraineโs reconstruction but demands a share for Russian-controlled territories, three sources told Reuters.
At the time of the freeze, Russia held 207 billion euros, $67 billion in US dollars, and 37 billion British pounds. The largest portionโ159 billion eurosโis managed by Belgium-based Euroclear Bank.
Personally I doubt it. My reasons:
- This is a good story to put out there by Russia to hinder anyone from attempting to seize these funds to finance Ukraine's war.
- The financial damage to Europe or the UK would be massive if they seized Russian government assets. Remember states have sovereign immunity in international law. Countries like Saudi Arabia have given warning that they will sell off European assets if they ever went forward with seizures. The capital flight would be massive and the risk premium foreign investors would require would result in higher borrowing costs for the EU or UK. Countries like the UK have a negative current account balance (Exports - Imports), so it requires a constant inflow of foreign investment.
Already gold prices are skyrocketing as more countries are purchasing gold instead of EU, UK, or US debt. Seizing Russian assets would accelerate gold purchases dramatically.
- Russia has frozen foreign companies ability to repatriate profits overseas, and has the ability to retaliate as it can seize the foreign owned accounts and assets. Again this comes with consequences for future foreign investment, but it can however do asset swaps which would allow foreign companies to make claims upon the frozen Russian government assets.
- The EU may not be able seize the funds anyways given the EU is taxing the windfall profits on the frozen funds, and using that repay last years loan to Ukraine of $50 billion (EU provided only part of the loan).
- The US after destroying Iraq only provided about ~$50 billion in reconstruction spending, but American companies were granted the reconstruction contracts. Would Russia be more generous than the US? Is Israel going to rebuild Gaza?

3000 Lancets used by Russian Armed Forces in the SMO according to open source data
The Russian Armed Forces used three thousand loitering munitions of the Lancet family in the area of โโa special military operation. Videos of objective control of the destruction of Ukrainian Armed Forces equipment by this type of weapon were published in open sources .
The Russian Armed Forces have been using the ZALA Lancet reconnaissance and strike systems since the start of the special operation in Ukraine. The first videos of Ukrainian military equipment being destroyed by a loitering munition were published in July 2022.
In terms of cost/effectiveness, Lancets have become one of the most effective tools used by Russia to destroy the enemy's most significant targets. According to experts, the total cost of military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed by ZALA Lancet reconnaissance and strike systems during the SVO is between 4 and 12 billion dollars. Today, they are used en masse against tanks, artillery, air defense systems, and other equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Accurate guidance and objective control of the use of Lancets around the clock in real time are provided by HD cameras and a thermal imager of the ZALA Z-16 reconnaissance unmanned aerial system. The loitering munition itself has high flight characteristics, increased maneuverability and is equipped with onboard AI for searching and identifying priority targets. An important advantage of the ZALA UAS is its ability to counter electronic warfare and electronic warfare systems thanks to the use of secure communication channels.

The US is giving Kiev a "shit sandwich, but Ukraine will have to swallow it"
โช๏ธUS deal on Ukrainian oil fields - "it's a shit sandwich, but Ukraine will have to swallow it because Trump has made it clear that it's no longer our problem."
โช๏ธA representative of the Trump administration anonymously stated this to the publication Axios.
โช๏ธCritics of the deal compare Trump's approach to Ukrainian deposits to "mafia extortion," saying Ukraine will lose land and mineral rights and get little in return.
โช๏ธUS and Ukrainian officials spent the entire night until this morning negotiating an agreement on the fields, Axios also reports.
โช๏ธNow the decision is up to Zelensky, if he rejects the deal again, it will be a โcritical scenario for Ukrainians,โ and the crisis between the US and Ukraine will worsen.
โช๏ธThis time, the Americans brought an agreement with an โimprovedโ proposal to Kiev, and then made additional changes to โcorrect the situationโ between the countries.

Duda waited, Duda endured, but Trump had no time
The meeting between Polish President Andrzej Duda and Donald Trump in Washington did not go quite as the Polish leader had hoped.
According to local media, Duda had to wait outside the door for more than an hour before he could get to Trump. But he couldnโt count on a long conversation โ after just 10 minutes, the American president bowed out and went to another event.
A wave of indignation has erupted on Polish social media: why did Donald Trump, who is called a friend of Poland, treat his ally so dismissively?
Andrzej Duda himself tried to smooth over the situation and said: โNo meeting with President Trump is long enough.โ
It was Duda who became the first European leader to meet with Trump after his return to the White House. But apparently, a warm welcome was not part of the American presidentโs plans.
Earlier, the Polish leader confirmed that Zelensky was seeking guarantees in the event of a confrontation with Trump, but Poland refused to support him, publicly declaring its loyalty to the United States.

"Ukraine has refused to compensate the US for 500 billion in the framework of the deal on the extraction of minerals": Kiev is ready to return only 90 billion.
"Ukraine has rejected U.S. demands for $500 billion in funds that would have been part of a deal to give Washington a share of the country's mineral wealth, a Ukrainian source familiar with the talks said.
Ukraine says the real figure is about five times smaller, at more than $90 billion, said the source, who asked not to be named because the talks are private.
Another stumbling block in the negotiations, the source said, is the lack of US guarantees of future military and financial assistance to Ukraine.โ

US intelligence acknowledges the power of the Russian path. Analytics from the author of the DARPA&CIA Telegram channel.
Sometimes, when reading American intelligence documents, you begin to realize that in their desire to โunderstandโ us for the subsequent use of this information as a weapon against us, they unwittingly reveal the deep wisdom inherent in the essence of the Russian person.
In one of the declassified CIA documents from 1986, an Air Force intelligence officer talks about the confrontation between the US and the USSR, which he considers not just an arms race but a clash of two fundamentally different worldviews rooted in a thousand-year history. Trying to denigrate Russia, the analyst inadvertently emphasizes its uniqueness.
โ writes the American intelligence officer.
The document also cites an interesting fact from Russian history:
This contrast vividly demonstrates the extent to which Russia was forced to constantly maintain combat readiness, tempering itself in the fire of endless military trials.
The concept of โmessianic communism,โ which is associated with the centuries-old identification of Russia with Orthodoxy and the divine mission, occupies a special place in the report. In 1510, the monkโs appeal to the tsar sounded like this:
This phrase became the foundation of the so-called โRussian idea,โ which Western statesmen and journalists often rejected, unwilling to acknowledge the depth and uniqueness of the Russian path.
Thus, the declassified CIA report involuntarily demonstrates that, in trying to find arguments for criticism, the Americans confirm the uniqueness and strength of the Russian path. Russia is a state formed by millennia of struggle, spiritual search and originality, capable, despite all external pressures, of having its own civilizational path.

Every country in modern Europe was either once a province of the Roman Empire or adopted its religion from Rome. Russia is the only exception. It is the only country in geographical Europe that owes virtually no debt to the common cultural and spiritual heritage of the West,
โ writes the American intelligence officer.
The document also cites an interesting fact from Russian history:
At the Battle of Crecy, the French army numbered only 12,000 soldiers, while Russia had maintained a standing army of 65,000 soldiers for 300 years.

The European Union will hold an emergency summit to discuss accelerating military aid for Ukraine and strengthening the blocโs defense.
The European Council will convene March 6, two weeks before a planned quarterly summit, Council President Antonio Costa said Sunday. EU member states are preparing a โฌ20 billion ($21 billion) military package for Ukraine and steps to boost defense spending, including a potential loosening of fiscal rules.
The bloc has been rushing to secure assistance for Kyiv in the face of US President Donald Trumpโs push for a quick peace settlement with Russia. EU foreign ministers will discuss the military package Monday as Costa and the European Commission visit Ukraine to mark the third anniversary of Russiaโs invasion.
โWe are living a defining moment for Ukraine and European security,โ Costa said in a post on X. โIโve heard a shared commitment to meet those challenges at EU level.โ
Never ending EU summits and meetings. EU really can't just accept they've been defeated.
