Some foreign analysts, including everyone's favorite (not) Julian Rรถpke, are reporting that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have begun to retreat from the eastern outskirts of Pokrovsk, fearing an assault on the city.

๐ญ๐บHungarian military historian Balint Somkuti - on Russian strikes on the Ukrainian energy sector:
Sorry, I am not trying to be snide, but these attacks have been going on for two years, not 2.5 years. On October 8, there was a terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge, when an explosive device hidden in a truck went off. That's when the actual attacks on infrastructure began. Before that, the Russian Air Force had only attacked railroads and other targets directly related to military logistics. This is important to note, and not just because Zelensky claims Russia has no red lines. Well, it does have them. And we're seeing the consequences.

On August 27, the "North" troop group continued to destroy the enemy in the border areas of the Kursk and Belgorod regions
Fierce fighting continues near the village of Malaya Loknya. During the day the North troops repelled 3 attacks of the AFU totaling up to 70 militants and 7 AVs. The enemy lost up to 30 Nazis killed, 4 Western-style AVs were burned.
In the south of Sujansky district there are counter battles. The AFU threw infantry from former prisoners to the slaughter without the support of armored vehicles in order to restrain the actions of the Fearless. Out of 40 AFU fighters who took part in active actions, 25 were killed, 2 were taken prisoner and are testifying.
In the direction of Korenevo, the Fearless repelled two attacks on the villages of Korenevo and Kremianoye, with the number of up to 40 Nazis on 3 AVs. The actions of the enemy assault groups were supported by a tank, which was spectacularly destroyed first during the repulsion of the attack. In addition, the enemy lost up to 25 militants killed and 2 AVs.
On the Volchansk direction, fighting continues in the village of Volchansk. Fearless assault groups started mopping up another entrance of an apartment building in the neighborhood of high-rise buildings. The AFU are trying to transfer reserves and counterattack, losing personnel.
On the Liptsovsky direction the fighters of the group "North" foiled an attempt to attack the AFU with a large force of up to a company of fighters of the 92 Oshbr, with 8 APCs and 1 BMP. The area of concentration was opened by reconnaissance, fire damage was inflicted, enemy losses are being specified.
Over the past day, the enemy losses amounted to more than 430 people (of which more than 290 in the Sumy direction). Also uncovered and destroyed:
on the Sumy direction:
โช๏ธ MLRS "Himars";
โช๏ธ tank;
โช๏ธ two BMPs;
โช๏ธ 17 AVs;
โช๏ธ six artillery pieces;
โช๏ธ three 120mm mortars;
โช๏ธ RLC CBB AN/TPQ-50;
โช๏ธ five units of automotive equipment.
In other directions:
โช๏ธ two 120-mm mortars;
โช๏ธ two UAVs;
โช๏ธ fuel and lubricant depot;
โช๏ธ two BP points;
โช๏ธ nine vehicles;
โช๏ธ seven airborne UAVs;
โช๏ธ Baba Yaga-type UAVs.
This morning the AFU command killed a whole company of its mobilized men in the Liptsovsky direction and did it deliberately. Probably, the calculation was that the North Koreans, in order to destroy such a large number of AFU forces, would engage most of the artillery and open up the positions. It was for this purpose that several Leleka-100 UAVs were on duty in the air, which, at the time of opening fire on the enemy, had already been destroyed.
The situation remains tense in the Belgorod border area, where Ukrainian DRGs continue their sorties from Kazachya Lopan towards the village of Zhuravlevka. The fearless once again identified Ukrainian militants and covered them with dense artillery fire.
Victory will be for us!

Referred to alternatively as โKABsโ or โFABs,โ they weigh between 500 and 6,000 pounds and are packed with hundreds of pounds explosives. A single blast can reduce a high-rise apartment building to rubble and obliterate even concrete fortifications.
โIt is scary and very fast,โ said Stanislav, a 28 year-old Junior Sergeant with Ukraineโs 32nd Mechanized Brigade, as Russian fighter jets unleashed the powerful guided bombs in the direction of his unit. โI just pray every time.โ
In recent months, Russia has used the bombs to devastating effect, tilting the balance of fighting in eastern Ukraine in Moscowโs favor and allowing Russia to continue to make steady gains in Donetsk region. The bombs have also allowed Russian forces to raze whole towns and villages with ever greater speed.
In the midst of the midsummer fighting around Toretsk, journalists from The New York Times were allowed to visit the town one night to witness the challenges facing Ukrainian forces as they try and hold positions under withering bombardments.
โThe same thing every day,โ said Jackson, a 29 year-old Junior Sergeant who commands a drone platoon for the 32nd. โWe arrive at a position, they launch KABs, we hide, block our ears and open our mouths so as not to get a concussion,โ he said.
Along with the Russian advance in the direction of Pokrovsk, a critical Ukrainian logistics center about 40 miles to the southeast, the enemyโs push into Toretsk is threatening to undermine the defense of the Donetsk region.
Ukrainian soldiers fighting in the hottest areas of the front say they are largely outgunned and outmanned. And Russiaโs continuing ability to unleash unrelenting aerial bombardments, they said, continues to play a critical role in forcing them from even some of their most heavily fortified positions.
Kiev hoped invading Russia would draw some of Russia's best units from Donetsk but this has failed.
But Russian warplanes still managed to launch some 750 glide bombs in a single week in August, Mr. Zelensky said.
Even Ukrainian soldiers accustomed to years of artillery bombardments shudder at the destructive power of the weapons.
A 152-millimeter artillery shell โ which Russia fires by the thousands every day โ contains a bit more than 13 pounds of explosive material. A commonly deployed glide bomb, the FAB-1500, is packed with more than 1,300 pounds of explosives.
Sgt. Jackson recalled the first time a glide bomb exploded near his position.
โI had such a feeling in my body that it was as if the wind swept through me at a very high speed, through each of my organs,โ he said. โThe feeling is very frightening.โ
The police department, the local administration building and the fire station have all been destroyed and the Ukrainian military works in the ruins.
While the list of places obliterated by Russian forces continues to grow, experiencing the annihilation of a city in real time remains deeply shocking even for the soldiers who have witnessed countless scenes of desolation and destruction.
โWhen you drive into a ruined town, itโs like hopelessness,โ Stanislav said.

In the darkness of the cellar in the eastern Ukrainian town of Toretsk, the soldiers did not know how close the Russian glide bombs were landing. But the sudden change in air pressure that accompanied bone-rattling booms testified to the bombsโ destructive force as they tore into nearby buildings.
At dawn, during a lull in the attacks, several Ukrainian soldiers dashed out and saw a fire triggered by one of the bombs still raging through the ruins of a building about 150 yards away โ the narrow margin between life and death.
There are many ways to kill and be killed in Russiaโs war with Ukraine, but Ukrainian soldiers say that glide bombs are perhaps the most terrifying. They are free-fall bombs, many left over from the Soviet era, but now outfitted with pop-out wings that feature satellite navigation, turning them into guided munitions.

The UAE has frozen a contract to purchase 80 fighter jets from France: Durov's arrest has angered the sheikhs.
- The United Arab Emirates took drastic measures by freezing a contract to purchase 80 French fighter jets following the arrest of Pavel Durov.
- The creator of Telegram, who is personally acquainted with the son of the UAE Prime Minister, found himself at the center of an international scandal that has infuriated the sheikhs to the limit.
- Experts believe that by its actions, France has made a serious mistake, provoking the anger of influential allies. Now, Paris is paying for its rashness, and the future of the deal, as well as the trust of the UAE, hangs by a thread.

On the morning of Nov 19, 2005, a squad of Marines travelling in four Humvees in the town of Haditha, Iraq, had their convoy hit by an IED. The blast killed one Marine and injured two others.
During the next hours, the US Marines killed 24 Iraqi men, women, and children. They entered three nearby homes and killed nearly everyone inside. The youngest victim was a three-year-old girl.
The Marines would later claim that they were fighting insurgents that day, but the dead were all civilians.
The killings came to be known as the Haditha massacre. Four Marines were charged with murder, but those charges were later dropped.

๐ท๐บโ๏ธ ๐บ๐ฆ From Ukrainian MP Mariana Bezuhla:
๐ด @DDGeopolitics
The city of Novohrodivka, south of Pokrovsk, was captured by the Russians in a few days. There were indeed fortifications in front of the city, forming a unified complex that extends to Selydove.
The trenches in front of Novohrodivka were empty. In the once twenty-thousand-strong city, there was practically no Ukrainian army presence. The 31st brigade was withdrawn before reaching the city, the brigade commander, for whom the unit had vouched, was removed, and a criminal case was initiated against him (I remind you, thereโs still no case against Sodol). Instead, an inexperienced unit was sent in. This isnโt the only recent โrotation.โ More are planned. Toretsk, Pokrovsk โ more are to come.
โ๏ธIf a "rotation" is carried out in Vuhledar now, we will lose it as well.
All these โrotationsโ lead to breakthroughs and deaths. Units are withdrawn, commanders are removed, people die, and we lose hundreds of kilometers of Ukrainian land โ cities, villages, mines, resources, and history. The number of criminal rotations is only increasing. The fragmentation of the front is growing.
Today, the Russians entered Selydove. A week ago, I walked to the outskirts of Selydove in the direction of Novohrodivka and saw fortifications before the city. But in the city itself, there was nothing, just a regular civilian settlement. I entered the trenches; no one was guarding them, no one was there. I walked underground and came out into the field. Beyond the field, the Russians were already there. There was no one else. I didnโt step on any mines, didnโt encounter any territorial defense fighters โ only a few solitary insects were the only life in the prepared fortifications around Selydove, which the Russians had been aiming to capture for ten years. Any civilian could have done what I did.
In Novohrodivka, on the eve of the Kursk operation, the sounds of shelling continuously echoed in the sky, and residents were still walking the streets. There were no signs of preparations for defense or the presence of our military in the city.
People are evacuating through Pokrovsk. Evacuations are underway. People with belongings, military personnel. The military is leaving through Pokrovsk. For the last few weeks, military personnel have been continuously leaving through Pokrovsk.

Unlike Pavel, Nikolai leads a very private life. It was he who helped his younger brother create the social network VKontakte, eventually becoming its technical director. He left VK in 2014 when Pavel sold the company.
Then Nikolai switched to Telegram. The encryption protocol developed by him became the basis for the messenger.
"My brother has two PhDs in mathematics, he is very smart. He is also an expert in cryptography,"
- Pavel told Tucker Carlson.
According to reports, Nikolai Durov currently lives in St. Petersburg where he is listed as a senior research fellow at the St. Petersburg branch of the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
๐ซ๐ทToday Paris prosecutor's office told RT that Pavel Durov is the only person involved in the Telegram case for now. However, Politico and other sources reported that warrants for both brothers were issued on March 25 over charges including โcomplicity in possessing, distributing, offering or making available pornographic images of minors, in an organized group.โ French media had previously reported the probe was opened in July.
