🇩🇪📚 A well-known bookseller has gone bankrupt - a clearance sale has begun.

After the bankruptcy, the bookshop chain Weltbild is finally ceasing its operations. The remaining branches are planned to be closed by the end of August. Online trading will also be discontinued, with orders still being delivered until the end of the month.

According to the insolvency administrator Christian Plöhl, clearance sales are still ongoing in 14 locations. Consequently, 440 employees will lose their jobs after the closure.

"Long-term and sustainable continuation of operations is not possible without fresh capital due to the ongoing loss situation," explained Plöhl.

After filing for bankruptcy in June, Weltbild unsuccessfully sought investors.

The German automotive industry is currently experiencing a serious crisis. Sales are declining, which is having a significant impact on the production capacities of factories. This is confirmed by the latest data from Marklines, which are available to the German Press Agency.

Weak demand is forcing car manufacturers to sharply reduce production. Audi, for example, is considering completely ceasing the production of electric cars in Brussels, which would lead to the closure of the plant. VW has already cancelled night shifts at several plants, eliminating a quarter of production capacity. Ford also plans to close a plant in Saarlouis by the end of 2025.

This development also has a significant impact on the labour market. As of the end of 2023, around 779,700 people were still employed in the automotive industry in Germany. This means that this figure is significantly lower than the peak of 834,000 employees in 2018. The ongoing reduction in the number of employees underscores the challenging situation the industry is facing.
