[Week 13] Mindful Living

Mindfulness extends beyond the time you spent meditating on the cushion β€” it is a practice that we can weave into every moment, no matter how busy life gets. In fact, life's busyness offers a valuable opportunity to cultivate mindfulness and inner calm to face life's inevitable challenges. πŸ˜ŒπŸ•Š

As we wrap things up after months of hard work in school or work, let's take a step back and come together for the last session of this semester! We are once again grateful to invite Dharma Drum, who will lead us through some mindfulness exercises and stretches, teaching us how to incorporate mindfulness in our daily lives. πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ

[Summer] Mindfulness in the Digital Age: Finding Balance in a Hyper-Connected World

"Doomscrolling" has become a modern habitβ€”an unhealthy refuge we often turn to in times of stress. Buddhism, however, offers a gentler path: inward reflection through mindfulness.

Join us on 31 July as SMUDC is grateful to invite Siling Tongkhor Rinpoche, a Tibetan monk from India, who will share practical meditation techniques that we can apply in our daily lives in navigating our emotions.

The session will also feature Rinpoche sharing a simple meditative practice of making symbolic water offerings to the Buddha. This serves as a short, cheap & simple mindfulness practice that helps us experience the joy of giving and contentment amidst our busy lives.

[Week 1] Welcome Tea

What is Buddhism really about? Is it a religion? Is it a secular philosophy? What is SMU Dhamma Circle about?

Calling all Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike to join us for the first session of this semester, to learn a little more about the commonly misunderstood teachings of Buddhism through interactive and lighthearted games! Participants will also get a primer of what to expect from our sessions for the upcoming semester.

Everyone is welcome to get a vibe of Dhamma Circleβ€”a place where students of all religious backgrounds can come to pick up a maxim of wisdom or two to apply to daily and student life, for a happier and more compassionate lifestyle.

'Do not try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are.'
