[Week 10] Is your life on Autopilot? Rethink: Karma
Is our life dictated by fate, or do we have the power to shape our future? In Buddhism, the concept of karma helps us understand how our intentions and actions influence our present and future experiences. Far from being just a law of retribution, karma is dynamic, evolving with every choice we make.
Join us as we explore:
β‘οΈ Action or Fate? β Are we bound by our past, or can we change our future?
π± Making Better Choices β How skillful actions impact our daily lives.
π€ Breaking the Cycle β Using the Eightfold Path to free ourselves from negative patterns.
Look forward to a beginner friendly session to reflect and learn more about karma!

[Week 12] How to Cope When a Loved One Dies
The death of a loved one is one of the truths of life we all have to face some day.
Join us this coming Thursday for a sharing on the passing of our loved ones, as we reflect together on how to properly handle and process grief. Buddhism teaches us to not be afraid of such matters as impermanence is a fact of life that affects all things, including grief itself. Through learning about impermanence and wisely navigating it with compassion, we learn to better appreciate our loved ones when they are still alive and accept their passing with peace.
The speaker, Venerable Shi You Wei, is a local monastic and the current abbot-in-charge of Di Zang Lin. He has given many Buddhist talks, engaging with the local and youth community through podcasts such as The Daily Ketchup.

[Week 13] Mindful Living
Mindfulness extends beyond the time you spent meditating on the cushion β it is a practice that we can weave into every moment, no matter how busy life gets. In fact, life's busyness offers a valuable opportunity to cultivate mindfulness and inner calm to face life's inevitable challenges. ππ
As we wrap things up after months of hard work in school or work, let's take a step back and come together for the last session of this semester! We are once again grateful to invite Dharma Drum, who will lead us through some mindfulness exercises and stretches, teaching us how to incorporate mindfulness in our daily lives. π§ββοΈ

[Summer] Mindfulness in the Digital Age: Finding Balance in a Hyper-Connected World
"Doomscrolling" has become a modern habitβan unhealthy refuge we often turn to in times of stress. Buddhism, however, offers a gentler path: inward reflection through mindfulness.
Join us on 31 July as SMUDC is grateful to invite Siling Tongkhor Rinpoche, a Tibetan monk from India, who will share practical meditation techniques that we can apply in our daily lives in navigating our emotions.
The session will also feature Rinpoche sharing a simple meditative practice of making symbolic water offerings to the Buddha. This serves as a short, cheap & simple mindfulness practice that helps us experience the joy of giving and contentment amidst our busy lives.
