⚡️🇺🇦🇪🇺🇺🇸 About the upcoming "Air Defender - 2023" Exercise and how it relates to #Ukraine⚡️
🇩🇪 The Multinational Exercise "Air Defender - 2023" will take place from 12 to 23 June 2023 under the leadership of the FRG. It is already being called in the long term the largest joint #NATO Air Forces exercise in history.
Twenty-four countries, more than 220 aircraft and over ten thousand #NATO troops will take part in the manoeuvres. The focus will be on a collective defence scenario for the Alliance.
The airspace above #Germany in the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and Bavaria is reserved for the exercise. In addition, air bases in Great Britain, the Czech Republic, #Poland and #Estonia and #Latvia will be used.
Flights to the Black Sea area are also planned, and given #Finland's accession to #NATO, an increase of Alliance aviation activity near Russia's borders in #Karelia and on the Kola Peninsula is to be expected.
🔹What does #Ukraine have to do with it?
It is rather curious how #NATO's combat training activities correlate with the events in #Ukraine. Just a few weeks ago, when news of the impending offensive first emerged, Kiev intensified preparations.
The Zelensky administration had intended the attack to coincide with #NATO exercises. Information began to circulate among members of Ukrainian formations that the assault would begin right after "Defender Europe" on 22 April 2023.
Such a move, according to the logic of the Ukrainian authorities, was supposed to show the unity of the "Whole World" against #Russia.
However, problems in personnel training and supply of weapons and equipment, huge losses in the most combat capable AFU formations in #Soledar and #Bakhmut significantly affected the capabilities of Ukrainian formations.
🔹Now the same AFU Units are already talking about the May campaign, which is going to be timed to coincide with Victory Day for a greater informational effect. And unlike April, there are already more combat ready brigades in the ranks of the AFU.
However, according to both #NATO leaders and Western news agencies, this is not enough for the success of the offensive. For example, the 47th and 67th Mechanized Brigades are 75% manned, despite their status as " Elite Brigades".
The AFU will theoretically be able to reach its maximum combat capability by June, when another five to eight new brigades will be formed.
The Western media are presenting "Air Defender - 2023" as "#NATO's Greatest Exercise", and the Ukrainian authorities will surely try to use the news coverage to their advantage.
And massive flights of both tactical and strategic reconnaissance aircraft to #Russia's southern and northern borders are highly likely to be accompanied by provocations or attempted strikes by Ukrainian formations.
