According to a report by Boston Consulting Group, the on-chain RWA market is projected to reach US$4 trillion to US$16 trillion by 2030.

Real-world assets (RWAs) utilise #blockchain to track assets, with performance derived from sources outside the blockchain. They are tangible or intangible assets that can be tokenised and represented as digital tokens on the blockchain.

RWA tokens are essentially representations of assets that are not inherently native to a blockchain, There are two main ways of tokenising RWAs:

Non-native tokens: On-chain tokens are issued to represent RWAs that are managed off-chain.

Native tokens:An on-chain token is issued and acts as the RWA itself. In other words, the token does not represent any other off-chain asset.

RWAs are fungible tokens or #NFTs representing traditional financial assets on the blockchain. They can represent tangible assets such as real estate or intangible assets such as government bonds and carbon credits.

#RWA tokenization brings these assets onchain as security tokens to take advantage of blockchain technology. Any asset of value can be tokenized.

#SecurityTokens can represent RWAs that exist and are managed off-chain by custodians, or issued to serve as RWAs themselves. For example, a bond can be issued directly onchain as a token or issued and held off-chain.

Backed by traditional assets, RWAs can serve as sustainable and reliable digital asset classes that put #DeFi in direct competition with TradFi.
