My Personal Opinion On Good & Bad, And Is Anyone's Life Really Bad or Good

There is no absolute good and bad. What I have assumed up to this point in life is that there isn't any objectivity when it comes to society, culture or morality. Since I was very young, I had one thought surfacing in my mind every once in a while, what I think is good and bad is just based on the extent of what I know about it, typically the extent of comfort or discomfort I experience and imagine. Whatever we think is good and bad, moral or immoral is just the effect of the culture, time period and environment around us.

I think that a lot of things in our life would be considered inhumane, odd, weird, disgusting, immoral or bad many things considered good and normal could be completely taboo or insane. If you think your life is bad, is it really bad? If you think your life is good, is it really good? Isn't bad and good just illusions based on the culture? For example I'm from a country where even today it is very common for parents or teachers to punish their children or students with beatings, not just tit tat beatings but abusive way. Yet when those children grow up they tend to become very respectful and loving to their parents or teachers saying things like “They did it for our own good, we understand it now.” But if something like that happened to a child in usa he would forever be traumatized and be diagnosed with multiple mental health problems.

One thing far right people often say is that "depression/naivety among teenagers didn'tt exist back in the day." I feel like they are partially correct back then most teenagers weren't concerned about mental health yet they lived stable lives because they saw everyone else moving on as if it were nothing. Whatever you think is good or bad is just evolutionary or environmental. Imagine you have a large debt to pay or must work simply to survive. The only thing you can ever eat is bread and a thin slice of meat, nothing else and you must work eight hours a day. You might think your life is miserable. But what if every other human also had it even worse working sixteen hours a day and surviving only on plain bread with nothing to go with it, And what if all memory of your past life about better food or activities and theirs too vanished from your mind so the only thing you know is bread and eight hours of work. Then people would perceive you as living the best possible life and even you would feel lucky.

In my assumptions good and bad exist only in the mind. They are scales of lowest to highest comfort and pleasure that we know exist. Like that old story, if you had no legs you would wish for legs, if you had legs but nothing to cover them with you would wish for shoes, if you had shoes and legs you would wish for something more comfortable, like a bicycle, if you had a bicycle you would wish for a motorcycle so you wouldn't have to pedal then you would wish for a car, then an airplane, and so keep going. What I perceive from this is that as humans it is biological for us to desire less suffering and more pleasure. The scale of pleasure might have no hypothetical end but it has environmental and temporal limits. For example, if you were poor in a time period when sugar was expensive the best appetitive desire you could have was to be able to consume sugar like the rich. But in the todays day and age sugar is easily accessible to everyone so the highest apetituve pleasure you can imagine is eating expensive food only the wealthy can afford.

It is that humans always want more. So is your life really bad? You might think your life is bad and unstable because of extreme childhood trauma, but what if it was invetible and common for every child in the world to go through the same experience and they grew up just normal in that sense. Would you really think your life is bad? Is anyone's life bad? or is it just not on the average or above average scale of comfort and pleasure compared to the lives of others in your environment? What if the "bad" situation in your life or your past, was common and happened to every single person on earth and in fact all others had it significantly worse than you? Would you consider your life bad? Does anything called "bad" truly exist? All that we consider bad, good, moral, immoral are just concepts in our minds typically based on the lowest to highest scale of distress/pleasure and comfort/suffering we can imagine set by our environment.
