📣 Anthropic CEO apologizes after leaked memo criticizing Trump and OpenAI

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei issued a statement apologizing for a leaked internal memo that sharply criticized the Trump administration and OpenAI’s defense partnership. He said the message was written under stress during a difficult day.

The memo had accused Trump of authoritarian behavior and claimed political pressure was tied to donations and government contracts. It also criticized OpenAI’s Pentagon agreement, arguing that the safety framework around it was largely symbolic.

The leak triggered strong reactions. Pentagon officials pushed back and questioned Anthropic’s influence over AI behavior through its Constitutional AI approach.

People gathered near Anthropic’s office and wrote messages in chalk thanking CEO Dario Amodei for refusing censorship and surveillance through Claude.

At the same time Amodei filed a lawsuit against the Pentagon and the Trump administration after Anthropic was banned from government contracts.

The company may regain access to standard federal work, while the defense ban is expected to remain.
