I wish I could get through to more people. I wish I could have a bigger audience. I wish social media wasn't so heavily designed to put people in echo chambers with other people who already mostly agree with them. I wish I could do more in here than just preach to the choir.
Oh also the supreme court struck down affirmative action just a year ago for college admissions. They'll probably strike it down in regards to employment law as soon as they get the chance to.

So, you know, even more bigotry will go unchecked, and racial inequality will continue to persist. Because, you know, given all the stuff I said yesterday about criminalizing homelessness, they do still want it to disproportionately affect black people. As always.

Affirmative action lasted less long than an average lifespan in this country. Nowhere near long enough to make any real changes in the generational wealth gap created by prior racist laws, segregation, etc.

The supreme court, as it is now, can easily set u.s. law back potentially hundreds of years in many areas. There's been talk among conservatives about coming after interracial marriage after stripping away gay marriage rights.

At this point the people they aren't explicitly desiring to come after are a relatively small chunk of the u.s. population. But it doesn't matter to them because the average voter has no choice in the supreme court anyways.

Even if Biden wins this election, the supreme court will continue to strip away our human rights. Everyone needs to start thinking about what they can do besides voting.

A Trump win will guarantee our further descent into fascism. A Biden win will guarantee our descent into fascism, but a bit more slowly.
I'll probably get back to more normal posting soon instead of mostly these rants

Got a new job again and been scrambling to get everything together for it after an extended... disorganized period of my life

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor disagrees with immunity ruling: "In every use of official power, the President is now a king above the law"
Yall hear about the barista who hit a guy's car with a hammer after he dumped a drink on her?

One of those youtube react lawyers popped up in my feed. And he only used part of the clip that seems to show that she was being aggressive first, and I scrolled through the comments, and yeah, everyone who watched the video is now misinformed.

His conclusion was something along the lines of, "legally you can only use self defense with proportional force, in other words, don't bring a hammer to a coffee fight" making her guilty.

And all replies that bring up that he literally made a verbal threat on her life? Everyone responds with "hearsay" or "how do you know" or "the [youtube] lawyer already said she was guilty" and whatever else. Just thought terminating bullshit because people don't like their first impression of the situation (from the youtube lawyer's video) challenged. They had already formed an option and people really fucking hate being wrong about something, even if it's about a short youtube clip missing a lot of context.

When someone makes a threat on your life, I think showing that you're not defenseless in the way that she did is perfectly valid. He had already committed assault, battery, and a death threat by the time she brought out the hammer to try and make him go away.

And guess what? Not only I would agree that a hammer is proportional force in response to assault, battery, and a death threat... In the real world, where all of the information and evidence was brought to light about this guy's history of negative behavior and harassment? The man is getting charges and she isn't (or maybe he has gotten charges by now, can't find sources on this from more recent than about 2 weeks ago). If anyone has a more up to date source on this let me know. As far as I know, it's yet to be seen if this actually goes to court.

Either way, my argument is that she has both moral and legal ground to stand on here.

Also, the other most common comment I read is "$20 coffee is the real crime here." It's Seattle. The minimum wage is just a few cents shy of $20/hour in Seattle, I just looked it up. It's the equivalent of a $7-8 coffee in a place with federal minimum wage. That said, there are plenty of cheaper (and probably better) coffee options. No reason to harass and threaten one place's employees for the coffee being expensive.
July 4th is the day of the year where "tough on crime, law and order" conservatives roleplay as rebellious lawbreakers when they set off fireworks in places that banned them due to fire risk
Anyways stay safe during the heat. If you live indoors and can't afford air conditioning please spend time in the shower with cool water running on you.

I'll be okay. I'll just be hard to reach while it's really hot out. Got home from work and instantly conked out. Still very tired. Stay safe. Those with air conditioning check in on any local friends you know without ac. If you don't have ac and don't work during the hottest parts of the day see if you can find a coffee shop or something with ac. Etc. Good luck out there <3
starting a new job during a heatwave is wild cause I been offline so much that here I am with dozens of unread dms that I'll check out over the weekend
How do neurotypicals actually get every chore and errand done while working full time
As someone who's neurodivergent I just simply never knew there was so much historical context and thought put into something like walking down the sidewalk
