The presence of MNCs create good jobs for Singaporeans. Since the 1970s, Singapore has been staying open to attract MNCs and adopted the strategy of having them teach Singaporean skills. Meet the people faithfully speaking for lower wage workers

Meet the people who have been faithfully speaking up and working to uplift low wager workers including the 'father' of Progressive Wage Model.

Mr Lim Swee Say believes that these workers must be assured of career progression and that wage growth should not be stagnant. He believes that workers can upskill, be promoted and hence receive higher salaries. Therefore, he designed the PWM to be a wage ladder rather than Minimum Wage which would become a wage ceiling. It is this unwavering belief that saw the birth of the PWM and the uplifting of lower wage workers!

What can we do about the rising cost of living?

Inflation is, unfortunately, something that cannot be avoided simply because of Singapore’s geographical location and its significance in international trade.

In a market economy like Singapore, most prices are determined by the interaction of demand and supply in the marketplace. As such, economists generally attribute the causes of inflation to either demand or supply factors, with different implications for the conduct of monetary policy.

Managing the rising cost of living, therefore, needs to be countered with us staying current and competitive. Take ownership of your own skills development to continue being relevant in our jobs or pivot into new growth areas or when the right opportunity arises.
