#Chaltu_Lemin_Motech?
On August 2018, 14-year old Chaltu Abdi died of complications following an extended hospital stay for treatment of third-degree burns from an unidentified flammable liquid, which she sustained after being allegedly raped repeatedly by her employer in Harar City in Eastern Ethiopia. Although under police custody, her assailant has yet to be charged with any crime.
Setaweet is launching a time-bound campaign called #Chaltu_Lemin_Motech? - #Why_Did_Chaltu_Die? to bring national attention to the crisis of gender-based violence in Ethiopia, and particularly, to the growing trend of violent men attacking women by throwing toxic acid or other flammable liquids on them.
Launching in January 2019, #Chaltu_Lemin_Motech has three time-bound goals which we will aim to achieve through a wide-reaching petition. The petition which will aim to collect 10,000 signatures in a period of one month include the following requests to the new administration of the Ethiopian government.
1) To review the legislation that pertains to gender-based violence, with an aim to provide appropriate legal sentencing on gender-based violence, and in line with, the advent of new forms of violence, such as acid attacks (which are not treated in a special manner in the current Criminal Code). Taking into consideration the special nature of the harm caused by acid and other flammable liquids, Setaweet asks that the crime should be treated separately from other forms of violence that cause bodily injury.
2) For the access, sale, and control of acid and other flammable liquids to be highly regulated through specific proclamation and regulations.
3) For Ethiopian medical institutions and particularly large referral hospitals such as Yekatit 12 and Aider Hospital, which have burn units, to have staff trained in the care of victims and survivors of such attacks.

የ14 ዓመቷ ጫልቱ አብዲ በተቀጣጣይ ፈሳሽ በደረሰባት ጉዳት ስትታከም ቆይታ በሐምሌ ወር ህይወቷ አልፏል። ተጠርጣሪው በፖሊስ ቁጥጥር ስር ቢውልም እስከ አሁን ክስ አልተመሰረተበትም። ሴታዊት #ጫልቱለምንሞተች የሚል ዘመቻ እያዘጋጀ ነው። ይህ ዘመቻ በኢትዮዺያ ያለው ፆታን መሰረት ያደረገ ጥቃት በተለይም እየጨመረ የመጣው አሲድን እና ሌሎች ተቀጣጣይ ነገሮችን በመጠቀም የሚደርሰውን ጥቃት ላይ ብሄራዊ ትኩረት ለማምጣት ሲባል የተዘጋጀ ነው።

#ጫልቱለምንሞተች ሶስት ግቦች ለመምታት ሰፊ የድጋፍ ፊርማ ማሰባሰቢያ ያደርጋል። ለዚህም 10,000 ፊርማ በመሰብሰብ የሚከተሉትን ጥያቄዎች ለኢትዮዺያ መንግስት ማቅረብ ይፈልጋል።ስርዓተ ፆታን መሰረት ያደረጉ ጥቃቶች ላይ ያተኮረ ህግ እንዲወጣ እና ይህም ህግ ተገቢውን ቅጣት የሚሰጥ ብሎም አዲስ የሚመጡ ወንጀሎችን ያገናዘበ እንዲሆን ያስፈልጋል። አሲድ እና እነዚህ ተቀጣጣይ ነገሮች የሚያመጡትን ዘላቂ ጉዳት በመገንዘብ ሴታዊት እነዚህን ከሌሎች የአካል ጉዳት ወንጀሎች እንዲለይ ይጠይቃል።

የአሲድ እና ተቀጣጣይ ነገሮች ሽያጭ እና አቅርቦት የሚቆጣጠር አዋጅ ወይም መመሪያ እንዲወጣ

የህክምና ተቋማት እና ሪፈራል ሆስፒታሎች በተለይም የቃጠሎ ህክምና የሚሰጡ ተቋማት ሰራተኞቻቸው በተቀጣጣይ ነገሮች በሚጠቁ ወቅት መስጠት የሚገባቸውን አገልግሎት ስልጠና መስጠት።

በኢትዮዺያ ውስጥ ፆታን መሰረት ያደረገ ጥቃትን ለማቆም የሚያደርጉት አስተዋፆ እጅግ እናመሰግናለን።
