هزاران هزار ایرانی به دلایل سیاسی و عقیدتی یا هم‌اکنون در زندان‌های جمهوری اسلامی هستند و یا پرونده‌های باز قضایی دارند. روزی نیست که خبر بازداشت شهروندان فقط به دلیل بیان و نشان دادن اعتراض‌شان منتشر نشود. شماری از فرزندان ایران زیر تیغ اعدام قرار دارند و جان‌شان در خطر فوری است. در چنین شرایطی، تلاش برای نجات و آزادی همه زندانیان سیاسی-عقیدتی فارغ از دیدگاه و گرایش سیاسی‌شان باید در اولویت همه ما باشد. دفاع از حق آزادی کسی که مورد ظلم قرار گرفته و به ناحق زندانی شده، به معنای دفاع از طرز فکر و گرایش سیاسی او نیست. از همه هم‌میهنان می‌خواهم که در کوشش‌های‌شان در دفاع از حقوق مبارزان در بند، به این اصل مهم و کلیدی توجه بیشتری کنند. هم‌چنین از رسانه‌ها و نهادهای حقوق بشری می‌خواهم در بازتاب وضعیت زندانیان سیاسی-عقیدتی بی‌طرفی سیاسی را لحاظ کنند و ازجمله بیش از پیش از آنانی بگویند که متاسفانه در گمنامی به سر می‌برند.
همه ما برای روزی تلاش می‌کنیم که دیگر کسی در ایران به دلیل فعالیت سیاسی و یا بیان عقیده و ابراز اعتراضش زندانی نشود و تحت تعقیب قضایی قرار نگیرد. برای رسیدن به چنین روزی -که تنها با سرنگون کردن جمهوری اسلامی ممکن است- امروز باید تفاوت‌های‌مان را در چارچوب اصول مشترک حداقلی‌مان به رسمیت بشناسیم و روی هدف اصلی متمرکز شویم؛ به‌ویژه در این روزها که ایرانیان در داخل و خارج کشور برای #روز_مهسا آماده می‌شوند.
Thousands of Iranians currently languish in the Islamic Republic’s prisons or have pending judicial cases against them for political and ideological reasons. There is not a day that we don’t hear news of citizens being arrested merely for protesting. Other Iranian youth are in immediate danger and face the executioner’s blade. In such circumstances, efforts to save and release all prisoners of conscience regardless of their ideology or political orientation, must be our collective priority. Defending the freedom of those who have been oppressed and unjustly imprisoned does not necessarily mean defending their ideology or political orientation. I call on all of my compatriots to consider this key principle in their efforts to defend the rights of our imprisoned fellow citizens. I also call on the media and human rights organizations to consider their political neutrality when covering political prisoners and to tell the stories of those who unfortunately suffer in anonymity.
We all strive for the day when no one in Iran will be imprisoned or prosecuted for political activity or the expression of opinion and protest. In order to reach such a day - which is possible only by overthrowing the Islamic Republic - today we must respect ideological differences within the framework of our basic, common principles and focus on our ultimate goal. This is especially critical as Iranians both inside and outside the country prepare for #MahsaDay.
