PUB-SDBA SURVEY ON DRAGON BOAT MOVEMENT IN MARINA RESERVOIR
SDBA together with PUB will be conducting a survey to understand the usage of reservoirs by dragon boats.
Objectives
- To determine where is the concentration of dragon boats in the reservoir at a given time
- To identify the transit route and/or circuit pattern used by dragon boats
A total of fifteen (15) trackers (see image above) have been placed at Kallang Water Sports Centre. We appreciate teams to volunteer to partake in this survey. Teams will have to collect and register the tracker for each boat that they are launching from nursery before the start of each training session with our Supervisor, Mr Robert Poon.
Examples:-
Team A launching 2 boats from Nursery, two trackers will be issued.
Team B launching 1 boat from Nursery for two different training sessions (Eg. 1 tracker will be issued for 8am to 10am while another tracker will be issued for 4pm to 6pm)

FATE OF CENTURY RACE & DBSMR
Thank you for your patience. We deliberated long and hard on the fate of the Century Race. Whatever the decision, there will be a snowball effect on the entire race program from March onwards. So we are trying to come up with the best solution for the community.
Century Race 2020
As of 28th February 2020, this event originally scheduled on 15th & 16th March is currently still postponed. However, we will keep the event in view and we will make a final decision by end of March if we could run the event in other feasible months of 2020.
DBSMR 2020
Remain status quo as per the previous email (i.e. fate shall be announced by DBS latest by 27 March)

SINGAPORE NATIONAL BUDGET
Regarding the national budget debate, SDBA has feedback to the government regarding businesses affected by the Covid19.
Due to program cancellations, SDBA will experience low to even zero income during the months of February & March. Some of our associates will also be heavily affected as they themselves faced program cancellations and low to zero take-up rates for their services.
But the worse and hardest hit are our freelance coaches, trainers and steerspersons. As programs get cancelled, so become zero employment for them. Although there are not that many, these people are essential to dragon boat operations. They may be forced to leave the sport as they will need to seek more permanent and stable employment elsewhere.
Apart from SDBA's own plight, we are also championing the plight of our associates and freelancers. We are hopeful that the government is able to provide some form of aid or relief packages to them as well. At the moment, SDBA will do what we can within reasonable financial means to keep dragon boat operations running.

SDBA's follow-up actions:

2. With regards to upcoming events scheduled for this year - Singapore Dragon Boat Festival, PM Cup, Singapore National Games, AustCham 10km and Singapore Regatta Waterfest - we will see how to come-up with contingency plans. We may need to re-plan and regroup accordingly.
3. With regards to the Century Race and DBSMR, we will update their final fate next week. Obviously, the new MOH directive will have a telling impact on the decision for these races.
Life goes on. SDBA will see how the sport can still safely carry on for everyone - be it for the recreational or competitive crew. Let's maintain the current control measures and keep on practicing responsible social behavior. God Willing, our community will tide over this with safety and health intact.

Dear Dragon Boat Community,
Please be informed that the DBS Marina Regatta (DBSMR) 2020 shall be cancelled. Please refer to the official statement posted on DBS Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/dbs.sg/
The global pandemic that is Covid19 requires Singapore to adopt stringent measures to control its spread and limit its reach. What we already know about its spreading mechanism, large gatherings where close contact is likely, can become susceptible. This is especially if an infected person is present. Sport events are by nature, large gatherings and the DBSMR with the dragon boat racing and annual festival of gastronomical treats, interactive experiences and family fun, is one very big gathering.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank both Singapore’s and the international dragon boat community for their interest and support in the DBSMR. Not forgetting all the sponsors and volunteers who have contributed much into making the DBSMR the world class dragon boat racing event that it is. This decision is made to protect us all.
We can remain hopeful that should the Covid19 climate improves, the DBSMR shall come back next year.
