Hello! This channel is for updates to the Science Fiction Worldbuilding Kickstart Guide, by yours truly. This channel will be a rather quiet one; I'll only post here if I make changes to the document. 2017/09/23: Fixed gas giant radius formulae (results came out rather too big - reminder to myself not to take over equations untested even if from credible sources), fixed wording in formula reference for formational heat (M in Jupiter masses as in text, not Earth masses!)
2017/09/26 (minor): Some small clarifications in chapter 3.4 and appendix A.1, along with adding in a word that went missing in the former (how embarrassing). No need to redownload, unless you feel you absolutely have to.
Addendum: aaaaand a subtly off orbital period to semimajor axis equation. If you don't want to redownload, simply find and replace all mentions of 42202.7843430539 with 42375.1112696496.
2017/10/6: Added formula for manual absorption factor calculation when working from effective temperature at Earth albedo (i.e. all the formulae that use 254K as a base), reworked tables for temperature calculation in Appendix A.2 to be more accurate, fixed some typos along the way.
2017/10/12: Added formula for temperature boost on moons from direct infrared radiation from planets - not sure how on Earth I missed that considering planetshine alone is prrrrrrrretty unsatisfactory in most cases, as it turns out. Also fixed some minor stylistic inconsistencies along the way.
2017/10/13: ... aaaaaaand another fix because I fucked up with the artificial gravity formulae. If you don't want to redownload, just manually find and replace all g = r/t² with g = r/(t/2π)², all 12960000 with 328280.635 and all 7464960000 with 189089645.761.
2017/12/31: End of year update! Clarifications, one minor fixed formula, expanded chapter 8 just a notch here and there.
2018/5/21: Updated some climatology notes, realized I'd painted too grim a picture for planets in eccentric orbits, also updated the daylight graph tool (https://www.desmos.com/calculator/39ga5kw0xs) to include a total insolation curve; check it out~
2018/8/7: Expanded writing on moons and ring systems. Nothing too big, but worth reading if what was there previously felt unsatisfactory.
2019/2/2: Editorial fixes (no longer referencing a planet that turned out not to actually exist in an example early on!), expanded chapter 5.2 with some text on twilight and the ways it varies between worlds along with a relevant equation.
