Scientists hacked a locust’s brain to sniff out human cancer
Cyborg locust brains can help spot the telltale signs of human cancer in the lab, a new study has shown. The team behind the work hopes it could one day lead to an insect-based breath test that could be used in cancer screening, or inspire an artificial version that works in much the same way.
Other animals have been taught to spot signs that humans are sick. For example, dogs can be trained to detect when their owners’ blood sugar levels start to drop, or if they develop cancer, tuberculosis, or even covid.

Cloudflare uses a large wall full of lava lamps to generate random numbers and generate cryptographic keys.

There is a webcam that recognizes and captures images in lava lamps. The bottom line is that these images are unique every time.

Take it:
- Sharks appeared before trees.
- First trees appeared before bacteria caused them to rot arose (Those bacteria that devour lignin and cellulose).
- First trees. when they died, fell and just lay there....
- New fallen trees tamped down the old ones...
- Over time, they turned into coal...

Methane converted into methanol at room temperature – just add light

Scientists have developed an efficient new way to convert methane into methanol at room temperature. The technique could help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide a cleaner way to make key products.

While carbon dioxide gets most of the attention, it’s not the only greenhouse gas changing the Earth’s climate. Methane is emitted in smaller amounts but is 34 times more potent, so reducing its levels remains a priority. Excess methane from industrial processes is often burned off, but that produces CO2.

A new “quantum flute” experiment by University of Chicago physicists could point the way towards new quantum technology. The holes create different wavelengths, akin to ‘notes’ on a flute, that can be used to encode quantum information.

Described in two studies published in Physical Review Letters and Nature Physics, the breakthrough could point the way towards realizing quantum memories or new forms of error correction in quantum computers, and observing quantum phenomena that cannot be seen in nature.
