🎙 President Vladimir Putin’s statement for the media following talks with President of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Key talking points:
🇷🇺🇩🇿 Russian-Algerian relations are truly constructive and mutually beneficial. They rest on respect and consideration for each other’s interests, and we continue developing them in the spirit of friendship and mutual support.
🔹 Joint work is underway to expand the practice of carrying out transactions in national currencies, which will help shield bilateral trade from the influence of third countries and the negative developments in the global currency markets.
🔹 Russia and Algeria are successfully expanding energy cooperation. Large Russian energy companies have been operating in the Algerian market for a long time. Algeria is interested in the development of national nuclear energy.
🔹 There are good opportunities for Russian-Algerian business cooperation. Russia is ready not only to supply equipment and organise its after-sales maintenance but also to localise production in Algeria and to educate Algerian professionals.
🔹 Russia and Algeria are striving to coordinate their positions within multilateral associations. Considering that next year Algeria will receive non-permanent UN Security Council member status, we are motivated to intensify our interaction on all urgent issues on the UN agenda.
🔹 We maintain a regular dialogue with our Algerian partners on a wide range of issues related to current security challenges and threats in the African region and the world at large.

• We view the African Union as a leading regional organisation that shapes the modern security structure on the continent and paves the way for Africa to take its rightful place in the system of global economic links.
• We support the Union’s involvement in the work of leading international associations. 🇷🇺🌍 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s video address to participants in the second Russia-Africa Media Forum of top managers of Russian leading news agencies (July 27, 2023)
Read in full
💬 Relations between the Russian Federation and African states are on the upswing, which is in the fundamental interests of both sides. Russia-Africa cooperation rests on the principles of equality, mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs. We are particularly glad to note the ongoing expansion of contacts between people. It is promoting the sympathy our people developed for each other during the period of decolonisation.
It is hard to overestimate the role of the media, primarily news agencies, in the further strengthening of friendship, trust and understanding. Now our priority goal is to expand Russia’s media presence in Africa and the African media presence in Russia. One of the aims is to overcome finally the negative stereotypes imposed by the collective West.
<…>
It is important to fully harness the potential of modern information technology – social media, the blogosphere, and digital services and platforms.
❗️ The West is relentless in its attempts to smear the image of Russia and African states in the media space. Under the circumstances, there is high demand for the initiative, responsible work of journalists, media top managers and new media specialists.
I am convinced that you can create a constructive news agenda that will be based on truth and facts rather than manipulation and invention to which the US and European media are increasingly resorting now.

🎙 Russia’s President Vladimir Putin's answers to journalists’ questions following the Second #RussiaAfrica Summit
Key points
• The [Summit] atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly in every sense of the word. These people want to work with us. As for us, we must do everything to move in this direction, and this is what we will do.
• We have done a lot of good and useful things for Africa. When we contact African leaders and they say as much, we always have a feeling that we are good people. This is true in this case and it is very good.
• There is a lot of demand for working together on security matters. Africa still suffers from terrorism. This is a challenge for many regions and countries there. We know all too well that stability at home is a must in order to promote economic development, while there can be no stability without security. It is for this reason that they want to continue working with us and are sincere about it. This includes military-technical cooperation. Outside pressure has done nothing to scare them away.
• The African continent is extremely friendly and positive towards us. This is an important foundation we can use to build business relations as well.
#Ukraine
• Just like any peace initiative, this initiative is helpful because it is focused on finding a peaceful solution to the conflict. There are certain provisions of this peace initiative that are being implemented after our meeting in St Petersburg six weeks ago.
• You know this, I constantly speak about this. We have never rejected peace talks.
☝️ The conversation in general was long and constructive. I think we spoke for almost two hours. Every participant had a chance to share their opinion on the matter. I want to stress once again: we spoke from the position of friendship, trying to find realistic ways and opportunities to lower the tensions.

🇲🇷 On November 28, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania marks Independence Day!
#OTD in 1960, the people of Mauritania finally gained their long-awaited freedom by breaking free from the French colonial yoke.
In the XVI century, Europeans started to explore the coast of today’s Mauritania and in 1855 the country was partially occupied by France. In 1904 it was organised as French protectorate. In 1920, after the long struggle against the colonisers, Mauritania became a colony, and was part of French West Africa until 1960.
🤝 The USSR and Mauritania established diplomatic relations on July 12, 1964. Our bilateral ties are traditionally friendly and constructive. Our countries are united by a commitment to the fundamental principles and norms of international law and the central and coordinating role of the UN in global affairs. Moscow and Nouakchott have an engaging political dialogue and maintain regular contacts at various levels 🇷🇺🇲🇷
🎉 We congratulate our Mauritanian friends on their national holiday and wish them success, prosperity, and well-being!

🗓 On September 16, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt Badr Abdelatty held talks in Moscow.
The Ministers specifically discussed a wide range of issues related to further dynamic development of the traditionally friendly Russian-Egyptian relations. They also reaffirmed Moscow and Cairo’s mutual commitment to establish comprehensive cooperation in accordance with the interstate Treaty on Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation signed in Sochi in October 2018.
The Ministers noted the leading role of the Joint Russian-Egyptian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in increasing the volume of bilateral trade and expanding cooperation in industry, energy and agriculture. In this context, the implementation of large joint investment projects was highlighted, first of all the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Egypt, El Dabaa, and creation of a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The Russian Side reaffirmed its readiness to continue timely supplies of Russian grain products to Egypt.
🤝 The Ministers also discussed topical international and regional problems. Moscow and Cairo’s mutual intention to maintain coordination at the UN, #BRICS and other multilateral platforms was reaffirmed. It was noted that Russia and Egypt had similar approaches to resolving the ongoing crises and conflict situations in the Middle East and the African continent through political and diplomatic means in accordance with international law and the provisions of the UN Charter.
Sergey Lavrov informed Badr Abdelatty in detail about Russia’s fundamental assessments and considerations on the Ukrainian issue.
When discussing the situation in and around the Gaza Strip, the Foreign Ministers highlighted that it was necessary to cease fire as soon as possible and provide urgent humanitarian assistance to the people in the enclave. They also emphasised that a comprehensive peaceful Palestinian-Israeli settlement on a generally accepted international legal basis, which provides for the creation of an independent State of Palestine within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem, was a priority.
The Ministers reaffirmed Russia and Egypt’s commitment to continue efforts aimed at prompt political settlement to the crisis in Libya, based on the principles of its unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
🌍 Special focus was placed on preparations for the first ministerial conference of the #RussiaAfrica Partnership Forum scheduled to take place in Sochi in November.
