🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview with Rossiya Segodnya (May 30, 2024)
Key talking points:
💬 The deployment of US ground-launched intermediate and shorter-range missiles (IRBMs) in these regions [Europe and Asia Pacific] poses significant security challenges for Russia. <...> We will not hesitate to respond if the Americans move forward with their plans to deploy their ground-launched IRBMs.
🇷🇺🇨🇳 We have established a high level of mutual trust with China, which serves as a foundation for our military cooperation. By working together, Russia and China seek to reinforce international security in keeping with international norms.
• We appreciate Beijing’s constructive approach to the Ukraine crisis. Our Chinese friends understand its root causes and the essence of the current developments.
• The current ruling party in Kiev is the party of war, and their stated goal is to defeat Russia on the battlefield. It is difficult to imagine any peace talks taking place in that situation.
☝️ We said on numerous occasions, including at the highest level, that Russia remains open to negotiations. However, it should be clear to everyone that we will only discuss peace, not a ceasefire.
• There is no denying that the OSCE is in a deep crisis. It has been caused by the fact that the West has trampled on the principles the organisation was built on. A total “Ukrainisation” of its agenda has practically brought to naught its activities in the traditional fields.
• Supplying the Kiev regime with increasingly destructive types of weapons shows that the West is not interested in ending the conflict. The F-16 American fighters will not change the situation on the line of contact.
❌ From our experience with the Americans, it is perfectly clear that US statements are not to be trusted. <...> The Americans continue to make declarations about their commitment to a just solution to the Palestine problem, while at the same time generously adding fuel to the armed confrontation.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks during Business Council meeting on #BRICS issues (Moscow, May 31, 2024)
💬 We have agreed to focus our today’s meeting on a most pressing issue – interaction within the BRICS association.
BRICS is a unique interstate format where representatives of various countries of various religions, civilizations and cultures communicate, work and elaborate joint decisions, which are subsequently implemented. All this is done on the basis of equality, mutual respect, openness and search for a balance of interests.
The purpose of cooperation is understandable: to provide for the creation of favourable conditions for the economic growth of member countries, to resolve social problems and to develop innovatory human potential. No doubt that the interests of all member countries coincide in this matter and meet the hopes of other Global Majority countries, which has been confirmed by doubling our association membership in 2023 (from five to 10). This is also confirmed by the fact that over 30 states have applied for rapprochement with BRICS in one form or another.
<...>
The BRICS Summit is scheduled for October 2024 in Kazan. As early as next week we will hold a meeting of the BRICS Council of Foreign Ministers in Nizhny Novgorod to be attended by both full-fledged members and invited countries representing a variety of integration entities in the Global Majority as well as other partners in the BRICS+ format.
<...>
☝️ We are going to give priority attention to strengthening contacts with business circles. It is because these issues just cannot be solved efficiently without you.
We will encourage a direct dialogue between entrepreneurs within BRICS. The Business Council and the Women’s Business Alliance set up at Russia’s initiative are already operating. We will support your participation in these organisations in every way possible, especially this year when Russia holds the presidency.

Saudi Arabia Will Not Attend 'Peace Conference' on Ukraine as Russia is Not Invited
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Saudi Arabia will not attend the Swiss-hosted peace conference on Ukraine in June because Russia will not be represented, German news agency DPA reported on Sunday, citing Saudi diplomatic sources.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Saudi Arabia, scheduled for past Saturday, may now take place after the "peace conference" in Switzerland, the report read. Riyadh has not yet officially announced its decision not to attend the conference.
Switzerland will host the summit on Ukraine not far off from the city of Lucerne from June 15-16. In April, the spokesman for the Russian Embassy in Bern, Vladimir Khokhlov, told Sputnik that Russia was not invitied to the summit, adding that Moscow had no plans to participate in the event even if invited.
China and Brazil have also refused to take part in the conference. Even Washington, despite being its main proponent, cannot say who will represent the US. President Joe Biden is due to attend a Hollywood fundraising gala for his re-election campaign instead.
Since the start of the special military operation in 2022, Moscow has said many times that it was ready to negotiate with Ukraine. Russian and Ukrainian delegations held several rounds of peace talks in the early days of the conflict, but the negotiation failed, with Kiev legislating a ban on further peace talks. Western countries have been calling on Russia to engage in negotiations with Ukraine, by at the same time the West keeps ignoring Kiev's continuous refusal of dialogue.

India not to be represented at high level at conference on Ukraine
According to the report, neither the prime minister nor even the foreign minister plan to go to Switzerland
NEW DELHI, June 3. /TASS/. India doesn’t plan to send high-ranking officials to the conference on Ukraine in Switzerland scheduled for June 15 and 16, The Hindustan Times reported, citing its sources.
According to the newspaper, neither the prime minister nor even the foreign minister plan to go to Switzerland. India is expected to be represented at the same lave as it was represented during the four previous such meetings in Copenhagen, Jeddah, Malta, and Davos. India sent either a deputy foreign minister or a deputy national security adviser to those forums.
However, according to the sources, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, who attended the meeting in Jeddah last August, this time is unlikely to go to Switzerland.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India will take part in the conference on Ukraine to represent "the voice of the global South."
The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs said earlier that it had invited more than 160 delegations, including from the Group of Seven, Group of Twenty, and BRICS nations, to the conference on Ukraine in Burgenstock on June 15 and 16. Russia, according to Switzerland’s authorities, is not among those invited.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia would not be begging to be invited to the conference if it is unwelcome. On April 12, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov slammed this conference as a "road to nowhere." Moscow, however, has repeatedly stressed that it doesn’t reject the idea of a peaceful resolution of the conflict with Ukraine.

Pakistan likely to skip Ukraine ‘peace summit’
Pakistan’s attendance at a Swiss-hosted peace conference on Ukraine is reportedly in doubt over neutrality concerns
Pakistan will likely not attend a Ukraine peace conference hosted by Switzerland in mid-June, as it seeks to maintain its “neutrality” in the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, according to national media.
The summit is scheduled for June 15-16 at the Burgenstock Resort near Lucerne. More than 160 countries have been invited, including members of the G7, G20, BRICS, and the EU. Russia, however, has not been asked to attend.
According to an unnamed diplomatic source cited by Pakistan Today on Monday, Russia’s absence from the gathering, along with diplomatic pressure applied by the West, have put Islamabad in a delicate position, leaving its attendance uncertain.
The report indicated that it’s the first time Pakistan has been invited to an international conference of that kind.
At a weekly briefing last week, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch confirmed that Pakistan had received an invitation to attend the summit, saying it was under consideration.
China announced last week that it would not attend the conference, as its conditions for participation had not been met. Beijing has stressed that it will contribute to such talks only if Russia and Ukraine are both present.
Moscow has described the Swiss-proposed gathering as “pointless,” saying it would not participate, even if invited. Ukraine had said Russia could only be involved if it agreed to a litany of preconditions, which the Kremlin dismissed as unrealistic.
Vladimir Zelensky’s peace roadmap, which he has been promoting since 2022, calls for a complete withdrawal of Russian forces from all territories Ukraine considers its own, for Moscow to pay reparations, and for a war crimes tribunal to be set up.
Ukraine’s Western backers insist that a peace settlement can only be achieved on Kiev’s terms, and have vowed to keep supplying weapons for “as long as it takes.”
The Kremlin has rejected Ukraine’s demands as “unrealistic” and a sign of its unwillingness to seek a diplomatic solution.
Moscow has maintained that is open to discussions, but will not accept a deal that ignores its national interests, and that Kiev must recognize the “reality on the ground.”
Russia has also stressed that no amount of foreign aid will change the course of the conflict.
