On attempts to expand NATO in the Indo-Pacific region

Last week, the NATO leadership announced the launch (https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/news_211244.htm?selectedLocale=en ) a new program in which the alliance intends to develop cooperation with experts from the countries of the Indo-Pacific region on "current events and their potential consequences for the security of the Euro-Atlantic area."

The initiative was created on the basis of another NATO program — "Science for Peace and Security", designed to "develop dialogue and practical interaction between NATO member countries and partners based on scientific research, technological innovation and knowledge exchange."

Experts from Belgium, Australia, France and Japan will meet to discuss the interim results of the work in Canberra, Tokyo and Paris in 2023, and the final conference will be held in Brussels in 2024.

According to the American analyst Brian Berletik (https://t.me/brianlovethailand ), the task of this project, as well as many other initiatives of the North Atlantic Alliance in the field of international scientific cooperation, is to expand the influence of the United States in the region with the help of "soft power", while restraining the growth of China's influence.

This time, Belgium and France, which are not even located in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as Australia and Japan, whose state systems are completely controlled by the corporate and financial interests of the West, will act as conductors of American interests.

One of the partners of the new program is the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), whose main activity is to produce propaganda (https://www.aspi.org.au/search?topics=39 ), portraying China as a global threat. In particular, this helps justify to the Euro—Atlantic community an increase in defense spending in favor of the main ASPI donors - primarily the United States. #НАТО

▪️Ukrainian formations attempted to attack civilian and military targets in Bryansk Region.

Russian air defence means intercepted ten enemy drones near Starodub and in Bryansk Region.

▪️In Starobel's'k direction, Russian troops continue fighting with AFU in Syn'kivka.

At the same time, Russian artillery is targeting enemy concentration areas near Kup'yans'k.

▪️In Lyman area, the Ukrainian command continues to prepare for counter-offensive in Kreminna direction.

Russian forces are fighting near Balka Zhuravka, the enemy is suffering heavy losses in manpower and armoured vehicles.

On the southern outskirts, Wagner PMC units are pushing through the enemy defences near Bakhmut cemetery.

▪️To the south-west, the Ukrainian command is pulling in manpower and armoured vehicles in attempt to prevent the loss of the road to Kostyantynivka.

At the same time, Russian troops are assaulting AFU positions in Krasne and also advancing towards the village of Stupochky.

▪️Ukrainian formations using missile and barrel artillery continue shelling Donetsk and its suburbs.

Residential buildings in the capital of DPR and Makiivka have been hit. Two women have been wounded.

▪️The Russian Armed Forces carried out massive missile strikes on energy infrastructure facilities in Ukraine.

TPP-5 in Kyiv was hit: the generation hall and transformers were damaged. There are reports of hits on other power plants in the region.

▪️In Kharkiv, Russian missiles targeted CHP-5in the west of the city. The air defense positions covering the facility were exposed by a UAV attack.

A large part of the city suffered power cuts, and the city and railway transport functioning was disrupted.

▪️In Zaporizhzhia, several strikes hit the Dnipro HPP 1st generator hall.

The open switchgear and several transformers at the facility caught fire.

▪️The Kryvorizʹka Tes in Zelenodolsk was hit in Dnipro Region.

The operating turbine and other key electrical equipment were destroyed. At least one generator is damaged.

The assault is complicated by the presence of an extensive network of underground communications and fortified firing positions.

▪️Assault detachments of the Wagner PMC, supported by the Russian Airborne Forces and artillery, are storming the village of Krasna Hora from three directions.

The enemy is suffering huge losses, the liberation of the village is a matter of time.

Russia Explains Stance On Peace Talks With Ukraine

Russia remains ready for peace talks with Ukraine, but these should take place with no preconditions and ought to account for realities on the ground, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin has said.

“There have already been negotiations” between Russian and Ukrainian representatives in Minsk and Istanbul, several weeks after the outbreak of the conflict in February last year, Vershinin told broadcaster Zvezda on Saturday. “As you remember, they were interrupted by the Ukrainian side.”

Decisions on such issues as a peace process “aren’t made in Kiev. The decisions are made in other capitals, first of all in Washington and Brussels. And that's whom one should address” about talks, the senior diplomat pointed out.

As for Russia’s stance, he reiterated that “any military action concludes with negotiations and, as we’ve said earlier, we’ll be ready for such negotiations.”
