Completing his mission in Jakarta Russian 🇷🇺 Ambassador to #ASEAN H.E. Mr. Alexander Ivanov sums up the work being done during his tenure in the article "ASEAN does matter to Russia. A lot".
💬Indeed, for the last several years Russia became an indispensable actor in the Asia Pacific. Our #ASEAN friends understand and appreciate a constructive stabilizing role of Russia 🇷🇺 with no hidden agenda in the region. Our philosophies of international relations, based on the principle of sovereign equality of nations, are similar.
❗️Our practical cooperation reached a status of strategic partnership in 2018, fixed during the Summit of our leaders in Singapore. During these years in addition to existing areas of cooperation, we have managed to launch and actively promote new ones, including Consultations of the High Representatives for Security Issues, Dialogue on ICT Security-related issues, meetings of Tourism ministers and others. In the end of 2021 we successfully held the first ASEAN-Russia Naval Exercises (#ARNEX) in the Indonesian territorial waters. In 2022 we organized a number of events within the framework of ASEAN-Russia Year of Scientific and Technical Cooperation. Dozens of joint projects were implemented and financed by Russia 🇷🇺 in various spheres ranging from agriculture to training of ASEAN health experts and specialists of law-enforcement agencies. We continued to develop practical cooperation between ASEAN and Eurasian Economic Union as well as with Shanghai Cooperation Organization, thus moving the processes of integration of integrations across the huge Eurasian continent.
🔻We firmly believe that #ASEAN-centered mechanisms of cooperation, created in the last 55 years and based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and constructive engagement, including the #EAS, #ARF and #ADMM-Plus, played the pivotal role in stabilizing the region, balancing the interests of all big players and promoting mutual trust, which are prerequisites of the Asia Pacific phenomenon of becoming the main engine of the global economic growth. For many decades there were no hot military conflicts in the region. Largely it is the merit of #ASEAN wisdom and its leading role in shaping multilateral cooperation here. That is why Russia strongly supports #ASEAN centrality in the region not only in words but in deeds. 🤝
🔻There are many internal and external challenges for #ASEAN in the turbulent situation of strategic ambiguity. I am sure that the current Indonesian 🇮🇩 Chair will be able to navigate the “ASEAN ship” through the troubled waters of the Indian and Pacific oceans.

Western crimes committed during invasion of Iraq left unpunished — Russia’s UN envoy
UNITED NATIONS, February 8. /TASS/. Crimes committed by a number of countries during their invasion of Iraq were left unpunished, and any expectations of eventually bringing those responsible to justice would be unrealistic, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya has told reporters.
"There are many things in this world left uninvestigated," he told a media conference on Tuesday. "And of course, the Iraqi hoax was never properly investigated. Nobody paid real responsibility for the crimes committed in Iraq. And I shall not today be explaining to you why. To think that there will be something like a tribunal on the Iraqi war would be a little bit unrealistic. People are busy with other things these days. But the questions remain. There are so many crimes committed which are pretended to be nonexistent at all, as if nothing had happened."
"This is the hypocrisy of the policies of some of our partners, including here in the Security Council," the Russian diplomat added.
At the UN Security Council meeting on February 5, 2003, then-US Secretary of State Colin Powell displayed a test tube containing some white powder, claiming that it was a sample of chemical weapons developed in Iraq, which, in Washington’s view, explained the need to launch a military operation against Baghdad. Russia did not consider the test tube to be sufficient evidence proving the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
As a result, voting on a resolution stipulating the use of military force against Baghdad did not take place. Nevertheless, the United States and Great Britain launched a military operation without the global community’s consent. Eventually, no trace of chemical weapons was found in Iraq, and the purported evidence proved to be a fake.

▪️In the Lyman sector, the enemy is redeploying reserves and additional special units to the Yampolivka area.
The advance of Russian forces to the Zherebets River will significantly complicate the Ukrainian units’ tactical position.
▪️Wagner PMC assault units have entrenched themselves on the northern outskirts of Bakhmut.
Fierce fighting is going on along the 1st Ushakov alley and in the area of Stupki station.
▪️Russian forces are pushing through the enemy's defenses in the southern districts of the city and on the approaches to Krasne.
To prevent a breakthrough in the direction of the road to Chasiv Yar, the Ukrainian command hastily redeploys additional reserves.
▪️AFU artillery continues to destroy residential buildings and infrastructure in the Donetsk agglomeration.
Residential buildings in Donetsk were damaged. A boiler house in Horlivka was destroyed. Five people were injured by shrapnel.
▪️In the completely destroyed Marinka, Ukrainian troops, despite heavy losses, continue to lead a desperate resistance.
Despite heavy fighting, Russian motorized riflemen continue to dislodge Ukrainian units from their positions near Nikolsky elevator.
▪️Near Vuhledar, Russian rocket artillery and aviation continue regularly launching strikes against the enemy's forward positions.
Ukrainian units are pulling in reserves to launch a counterattack near Mykil's'ke.
▪️The front line has stabilized in the Zaporizhzhia direction. Both sides are launching strikes with their barrel artillery and conducting mutual reconnaissance.
The enemy is fortifying its positions in the Orikhiv and Polohy sectors in anticipation of an offensive.

Former NYT journalist Seymour Hersch has alleged that the White House plotted for months in collusion with Norway to blow up Nord Stream while keeping Congress in the dark.
He writes on his Substack how a specialist deep-diving team allegedly planted explosives on the pipelines under cover of a NATO exercise, with an advanced sonar system able to trigger the charges.
It’s then claimed that a task force of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the CIA, and State and Treasury Department officials was convened in late 2021 to plot how to respond to an anticipated conflict in Ukraine. Still, their existence was reportedly kept strictly undercover, as a source Hersch cited admitted the sabotage plan was not “kiddie stuff.”
Biden exposed the plans publicly in February 2022 by declaring, "If Russia invades... there'll be no more Nord Stream 2,” the mission was downgraded from covert - which by law required Congress to be informed - to highly classified.
