❗️🇷🇺🇺🇦 Highlights of Russian Military Operation in Ukraine on February 6

▪️A Soviet-made Ukrainian Tu-141 Strizh drone crashed on the outskirts of Kaluga.

The drone was carrying a makeshift bombshell with integrated ammunition and was meant to hit a military facility.

▪️Russian troops develop their offensive in the Kupyansk area. The advanced units have fought their way to Syn'kivka.

According to some reports, street battles are already taking place in the village itself.

▪️In the Lyman section, Russian motorized rifle troops have taken control of several heights in the area of the Balka Zhuravka.

In the Yampolivka area, the enemy is retreating and suffering heavy losses in personnel.

▪️The Russian forces are reported to be continuing their offensive in the area of the liberated Bilohorivka.

Successful access to Serebryanka will significantly complicate supplies for the enemy grouping on the other bank of the river.

▪️In Bakhmut, Wagner PMC assault detachments have been conducting an offensive along the entire front line. Several blocks in the eastern and southern parts of the city are occupied.

Artillery and aviation are striking identified AFU positions around the clock.

▪️To the south, the Wagner PMC units are fighting on the approaches to Krasne and the Kostyantynivka-Bakhmut highway.

Success on this flank will allow to take under fire control the active road to Chasiv Yar and actually close the ring of operational encirclement.

▪️In Mar’inka, Russian motorized rifle troops managed to push through the enemy's defenses and occupy a number of important positions along the southern outskirts.

Fighting continues in the center of the village along Druzhba Avenue, where the Russian Armed Forcees took control over several multi-story buildings.

⚡️Statement by First Deputy Permanent Representative Dmitry Polyanskiy at UNSC briefing on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine (6 February 2023)

Read in full

Key talking points:

💬 Evidence of international humanitarian law (IHL) violations by Kiev and its targeted attacks against civil facilities is multiplying by the day.

🔹Ukrainian armed forces did not just target civil facilities, but the infrastructure that is meant to support and ensure the wellbeing of children.

☝️ All facts of the criminal outrage that Ukrainian armed forces commit under Western supervision. None of those will go unpunished.

🔹Taking into account the huge scale of Kiev’s crimes, it becomes increasingly harder for international human rights organizations who at least pretend to be objective, to disregard these offenses.

🇷🇺 Russia responsibly approaches the issue of POWs. We strictly adhere to our obligations under the IHL, which imply, among other things, a humane treatment of prisoners.

🔹There are hostilities not just between Russia and Ukraine, but between Russia and the collective NATO-led West that uses Ukraine as a tool in its geopolitical “crusade” against Russia.

❗️ If the collective West continues to supply weapons to Ukraine and postpone peace prospects for that country, then all goals of our military operation will be achieved by military means.

#Opinion by Maria Zakharova

💬 In response to Josep "Not a Jungle" Borrell’s words that banning the Russian media amounted to protecting the freedom of speech, I would like to recall that Europe has already preached this logic before.

About 300 authors were banned under the Third Reich, including Erich Maria Remarque, Karl Marx, Sigmund Freud, Henri Barbusse, Jack London, Maxim Gorky and many others.

Just as today, it all started with bans and book burning, and ended with people perishing in the flames. Books are thoughts printed on paper, while people are the living thoughts.

Let me tell you how it happened.

To justify the bans, Hitler’s supporters set the Reichstag on fire, which gave them a pretext to launch repressions against their political opponents. This is when they started burning books by undesirable authors. It was followed by a directive that every journalist in the Reich must be a member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party – NSDAP – in order to be able to work in their profession. After that, all government bodies had to take out subscriptions to Nazi press titles. It was only later that they started burning the bodies of those who suffered at the hands of concentration camp executioners and monsters. While it is hard to tell when the first reports on black smoke rising from the chimneys of torture chambers surfaced, but the sight of it became so commonplace that it turned into the hallmark of the Nazi regime.

Incidentally, Josep Borrell would probably be interested to learn that it was after setting the Reichstag on fire that the Nazis started justifying bans by talking about protection. Adopted immediately after the fire, the Decree of the Reich President for the Protection of People and the State paved the way to outlawing freedom in Germany’s political life. The Third Reich went on to use the same rhetoric with its legal ramifications as Borrell does today on multiple occasions. The Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour banned interracial marriage, and the Law for the Protection of National Symbols banned the free use of Nazi symbols.

Decades have gone by.
Germany has long cancelled these laws, while not only reinstating the banned books, but even instituting a special day to perpetuate the memory of book burning in 1933.

It was our soldier who restored Europe’s human face. History repeats itself. Today, our people are once again fighting this human-hating logic.

Completing his mission in Jakarta Russian 🇷🇺 Ambassador to #ASEAN H.E. Mr. Alexander Ivanov sums up the work being done during his tenure in the article "ASEAN does matter to Russia. A lot".

💬Indeed, for the last several years Russia became an indispensable actor in the Asia Pacific. Our #ASEAN friends understand and appreciate a constructive stabilizing role of Russia 🇷🇺 with no hidden agenda in the region. Our philosophies of international relations, based on the principle of sovereign equality of nations, are similar.

❗️Our practical cooperation reached a status of strategic partnership in 2018, fixed during the Summit of our leaders in Singapore. During these years in addition to existing areas of cooperation, we have managed to launch and actively promote new ones, including Consultations of the High Representatives for Security Issues, Dialogue on ICT Security-related issues, meetings of Tourism ministers and others. In the end of 2021 we successfully held the first ASEAN-Russia Naval Exercises (#ARNEX) in the Indonesian territorial waters. In 2022 we organized a number of events within the framework of ASEAN-Russia Year of Scientific and Technical Cooperation. Dozens of joint projects were implemented and financed by Russia 🇷🇺 in various spheres ranging from agriculture to training of ASEAN health experts and specialists of law-enforcement agencies. We continued to develop practical cooperation between ASEAN and Eurasian Economic Union as well as with Shanghai Cooperation Organization, thus moving the processes of integration of integrations across the huge Eurasian continent.

🔻We firmly believe that #ASEAN-centered mechanisms of cooperation, created in the last 55 years and based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and constructive engagement, including the #EAS, #ARF and #ADMM-Plus, played the pivotal role in stabilizing the region, balancing the interests of all big players and promoting mutual trust, which are prerequisites of the Asia Pacific phenomenon of becoming the main engine of the global economic growth. For many decades there were no hot military conflicts in the region. Largely it is the merit of #ASEAN wisdom and its leading role in shaping multilateral cooperation here. That is why Russia strongly supports #ASEAN centrality in the region not only in words but in deeds. 🤝

🔻There are many internal and external challenges for #ASEAN in the turbulent situation of strategic ambiguity. I am sure that the current Indonesian 🇮🇩 Chair will be able to navigate the “ASEAN ship” through the troubled waters of the Indian and Pacific oceans.
