The Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter has proposed to declare December 14 as the International Day against Colonialism in All Its Forms and Manifestations.
🔸 What is the purpose? To commemorate freedom fight of colonized nations, and to promote struggle against neocolonialism.
🔸 Why December 14? On that day 65 years ago, the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples was adopted.
We launch a series of posts on the #HistoryOfColonialism to pay tribute to those who fought for the sovereignty of their Motherland and fell victim to the atrocities of colonialists.
***
In December 1946, French colonizers started a military campaign against Vietnamese freedom fighters. Enraged by their military losses, the French recurred to such immoral practices as killings of civilians, including children, and mass rape of women. However, even these crimes could not break the spirit of Vietnamese patriots, who continued their fight until the capitulation of France.

🎙 Statement by Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova regarding the remarks made by Chairman of the NATO Military Committee (December 1, 2025)
💬 We took note of the recent interview given by Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Giuseppe Cavo Dragone to The Financial Times. Discussing the bloc’s response to alleged “hybrid attacks” from Russia, he claimed that “a pre-emptive strike could be considered a defensive action”, and that the North Atlantic Alliance should supposedly act “more aggressively”.
We regard Admiral Dragone’s statement about possible delivery of pre-emptive strikes against Russia as an extremely irresponsible step, indicating the Alliance’s readiness to continue moving towards escalation. We consider this a deliberate effort to undermine efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. Those making such statements must be fully aware of the risks and possible consequences – including for the Alliance’s own members.
❗️ NATO has long ceased to conceal its true goals and intentions. At the same time, the Alliance’s leadership somehow finds the audacity to accuse Russia of “bellicose nuclear rhetoric”, intimidation, and so-called hybrid attacks – without presenting any evidence whatsoever.
Against the backdrop of the anti-Russian hysteria being fuelled by NATO and its constant attempts to spread fear of an allegedly “imminent Russian attack” on NATO countries, such statements do not just add fuel to the fire – they seriously ignite an already existing confrontation.
Brussels likes to repeat the mantra about the Alliance’s “purely defensive” nature.
👉 Admiral Dragone’s self-exposing remarks about “pre-emptive strikes” put a bold line under this myth.

⚔️ December 1 is the Day of Military Glory of Russia
Victory of the Russian squadron at Cape Sinop
On December 1, 1853, the Black Sea Fleet squadron under Admiral Pavel Nakhimov won a remarkable victory over the Ottoman fleet in the Battle of Sinop.
The Black Sea squadron dealt a decisive blow to the forces of Osman Pasha. Fifteen of the enemy’s sixteen ships were destroyed, while no Russian ships were lost. According to various estimates, 3-4K Ottoman sailors were killed, and around 200 were taken prisoner.
The defeat of Osman Pasha’s squadron severely weakened the Ottoman Empire’s naval capabilities and derailed its plans to land troops on the Caucasian coast.
This victory reaffirmed the Russian fleet’s dominance in the Black Sea.
The Battle of Sinop became the last major engagement of the Age of Sail. Vice Admiral Vladimir Kornilov, one of the defenders of Sevastopol, praised it as “A glorious battle, surpassing Chesma and Navarin!”

🕯December 3 marks the #DayOfTheUnknownSoldier in Russia, honouring the feat of all soldiers who perished for the Motherland, yet whose names remain unknown.
#OTD in 1966, to mark the 25th anniversary of defeating Nazi invaders near Moscow, a ceremony of the burial of an unknown soldiers' remains was held in the Alexander Garden near the walls of the Moscow Kremlin. Those remains were originally located in a mass grave on the 41st kilometre of the Leningrad Highway — exactly the place that saw the fierce fighting between the Red Army and the Wehrmacht troops during the Battle of Moscow in November−December 1941.
On December 3, 1966, at a mourning ceremony, the Unknown Soldier’s coffin was mounted on an armoured personnel vehicle with a red banner, which proceeded through Gorky Street (now Tverskaya Street) to the Alexander Garden under the sound of the military march.
In the Alexander Garden, the Unknown Soldier was met by members of the USSR leadership, as well as the legendary Marshals of the Soviet Union — Georgy Zhukov and Konstantin Rokossovsky.
On May 8, 1967, ahead of #VictoryDay, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was unveiled as a memorial architectural ensemble. Soviet newspapers reported back then: “He perished for his Motherland and for his home city of Moscow. That is all we know about him.”
The granite tombstone bears the famous inscription: “Your name is unknown. Your feat is immortal.”
The Eternal Flame was lit up near the Memorial.
💬 Marshal of the Soviet Union Konstantin Rokossovsky:
***
In total, approximately two million Soviet and Russian citizens were reported missing in action during the wars and conflicts of the 20th and 21st centuries. The Russian Ministry of Defence carries out on a regular basis search operations to perpetuate the memory of heroes who perished for the Motherland.
Russian diplomats abroad are engaged in extensive efforts aimed at preserving historical memory, countering attempts to distort the history of #WWII and to question the Great Victory of the Soviet people. Thanks to their efforts, Soviet-Russian military monuments and mass graves are maintained and restored in foreign countries.
❗️ Regrettably, as part of a disgraceful campaign to distort history of #WWII, a policy of state vandalism is being pursued in certain countries of Eastern Europe, in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland in particular, with the one aim — to eradicate Russia's memorial heritage — the monuments to Soviet Heroes and Liberators. With the consent of the official authorities there, vandals desecrate mass graves, the remains of perished soldiers are being barbarically exhumed for further “reburial” in designated places.
Thanks to joint efforts, including by our compatriots living abroad and concerned Europeans who are not indifferent to our common memory, the records of the monuments and graves, data and images, are uploaded to the special web-portal 'Mesto Pamyati' (A Place for Memory).

⚡️ Statement by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Regarding the Vote in the UN General Assembly on the Resolution on the Return of Ukrainian Children (December 5, 2025)
On December 3, the UN General Assembly reviewed the draft resolution titled Return of Ukrainian Children as part of its 11th emergency special session.
Drafted by the Kiev regime, its European curators and the Canadians, this document is filled with lies and hypocrisy and turns reality upside-down.
It professes outrageous statements against Russia by accusing it of what it refers to as deporting Ukrainian children, speaking about their ‘forcible adoption’ and erasing their identity.
No evidence has been presented to back these groundless allegations. There is no mention of the fate of Ukrainian minors who were taken to Europe and lost all contact with their families.
It is obvious that the resolution is primarily intended to divert attention from the total decay of the Kiev regime, mired in corruption and suffering defeat after defeat on the battlefield. It is also part of an effort to discredit our country.
The discussion of the document revealed a division among UN member states on this issue. Western delegations insisted on the "deportation" of Ukrainian children. Representatives of the Global Majority opposed exploiting the issue of children and advocated for the use of political and diplomatic tools.
President of the UN General Assembly’s 80th Session, Annalena Baerbock, made an appalling and outrageous statement, clearly forgetting that she had already left her position as the head of the German Foreign Ministry and is now an international official, obliged to adhere to high standards of professionalism, impartiality, and neutrality. By framing her speech in the Goebbels propaganda mould, Annalena Baerbock has blatantly abused the trust many member states placed in her when they chose to elect her in June.
In the subsequent vote, the resolution received 91 votes "for," with 12 votes "against," 57 abstentions, and 33 absentees.
In other words, more than half – 102 out of 193 – member states refused to support the document in one form or another. Thus, among all the resolutions of the 11th emergency session, this draft received the fewest votes in its favor. It is clear that the European and NATO countries, which have no intention of abandoning its narrow political goals and continue to seek to prolong the conflict in Ukraine, had hoped for a different outcome.
❗️ The Russian Side once again emphasises that any accusations against Russia of "deportation" of Ukrainian children are completely groundless and misleading.
This was exclusively a matter of evacuating minors from combat zones where their lives were at risk. Russia is currently engaged in a systematic effort to reunite families and is ready to cooperate on children's issues with constructive international mediators.
