🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s statement and answers to media questions during a news conference following the 7th Russia-GCC Ministerial Meeting for Strategic Dialogue

💬 Sergey Lavrov: We had a candid, useful and result-oriented discussion. We reviewed the status of implementation of the 2023-2028 Joint Action Plan which was approved at the last meeting of the Strategic Dialogue in Moscow in July 2023.

We discussed prospects for Russia’s cooperation with the countries of the region in the economy, investment, cultural ties and information exchanges.

We focused specifically on the international situation, primarily, the situation in the Middle East, with a focus on the tragedy unfolding in the Palestinian territories, namely, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank of the Jordan River. We share a common stance on the importance of urgently putting an end to violence, settling humanitarian issues and starting serious practical work to implement UN resolutions on creating a Palestinian state that will coexist with Israel in peace and security.

We covered other regional issues, including the Syria settlement, the situation in Yemen, the Red Sea, Libya, and a number of other issues.

☝️ We underscored our appreciation for the balanced position adopted by all GCC countries on the Ukraine crisis. Many of them, including Saudi Arabia, are providing assistance in resolving humanitarian issues not only in the context of what is happening in Ukraine, but in a broader context as well. I’m referring to our relations with the United States and Europe and the recent exchange of prisoners which took place with the direct involvement of the Saudi leaders. <...>

🌐 In addition to the bilateral agenda, we discussed current international issues and reaffirmed our commitment to the objective process of forming a new multipolar world order without hegemons or dictators, where the key principle of the UN Charter - the sovereign equality of all states - will be respected.

International Day of Journalists Solidarity

10 September 2024, the Russian House in Dhaka organized a press conference with young media workers dedicated to the International Day of Journalists Solidarity.
In his welcoming speech, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka P. Dvoychenkov noted that every year on this significant day, an annual press conference is organized together with representatives of the Bangladeshi media and the Russian House deeply appreciates the support in promoting activities through the media.

In commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity of Journalists, we recognize the challenges faced by journalists around the world – the risks they face, the pressures they endure, and the sacrifices they make for the sake of their profession. We stand in solidarity with them in advocating for their safety, freedom, and the right to work without fear or preference.

He also highlighted that the Russia House in Dhaka is committed to supporting a free and dynamic media sphere and that open dialogue and the promotion of mutual understanding are prerequisites in today's interconnected world.

He recalled that every year the Russian House organises the participation of Bangladeshi citizens in the New Generation programme of short-term study visits to Russia and other events. In October-November 2023, seven media representatives took part in two visits of the program, about ten journalists took part in the World Youth Festival held in March 2024.

The journalists participating in the meeting expressed their gratitude to Russia for the capabilities of the New Generation program.

In the second part of the event, a screening of the Russian family comedy film "Cheburashka", directed by Dmitry Dyachenko was organized.

The press conference was attended by more than 50 media representatives representing television channels, print and online media in Bangladesh. The Director of the Russian House sincerely answered journalists' questions about the activities of the Russian House in Dhaka and expressed his gratitude to everyone.

It has come to our attention that certain misleading and false information regarding alleged embezzlement in the Rooppur NPP project keep circulating in Bangladesh media despite two press releases issued earlier by Rosatom State Corporation to refute these ungrounded statements.

In order to put an end to further absurd speculations on the subject, it seems necessary to clarify the mechanism of utilization of Russian export credits and the amount of money already spent on the construction of the Rooppur NPP.

ক্রিমিয়া, দোনেৎস্ক, লুহানস্ক, খেরসন, এবং জাপরিজজিয়া অঞ্চলে অনেক রুশভাষী বাসিন্দা আছেন, যারা নিজেদের ইউক্রেনের চেয়ে রাশিয়ার ঘনিষ্ঠ মনে করে এবং রাশিয়ার সাথে সংযুক্ত হতে চায়।

ফিলিস্তিন ইস্যুতে আন্তর্জাতিক সম্প্রদায় এক ধরনের নৈতিক দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে সমস্যাটি দেখেছে এবং মানবাধিকার লঙ্ঘনের বিরুদ্ধে আওয়াজ তুলেছে। মিডিয়া, জাতিসংঘ এবং মানবাধিকার সংস্থা থেকে ফিলিস্তিনিদের স্ব-নিয়ন্ত্রণের অধিকারের প্রতি ব্যাপক সমর্থন রয়েছে। তবে ক্রিমিয়া এবং পূর্ব ইউক্রেনের অঞ্চলগুলির ইস্যুতে আন্তর্জাতিক সম্প্রদায়ের প্রতিক্রিয়া অনেকটা দ্বিমুখী এবং পক্ষপাতদুষ্ট মনে হয়। বিশেষ করে পশ্চিমা দেশগুলি রাশিয়ার ভূমিকার কারণে এই অঞ্চলগুলিকে রাশিয়াপন্থী অঞ্চল হিসেবে বিবেচনা করে এবং ইউক্রেনের আঞ্চলিক অখণ্ডতার পক্ষে সমর্থন দেয়।

Ambassador Mantytskiy congratulated Mr Uddin on his appointment to the post and reiterated Moscow's committment to multifaceted dialogue with Dhaka.

The meeting focused on topical issues of bilateral relations, including implementation of joint projects and interaction in international organisations.

On September 30 – October 1, 2024, Armenia will host the 3rd Eurasian Economic Forum.

The main theme of the Forum is “10 years of the Eurasian Economic Union (#EAEU): prospects and priorities”. It aims at improving connectivity in Eurasia.

The program includes more than 30 events, including a top-level plenary session on digitalization. Discussions will focus on finding new directions for the strategic development of the Union.

Leaders, officials and businessmen of the EAEU member-states and other countries interested in interacting within the Union are expected to attend the event.

The Eurasian Economic Union is an international organization for regional economic integration. It provides for free movement of goods, services, capital and labor, pursues coordinated, harmonized and single policy in specified sectors.

The EAEU Member-States are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

Основные тезисы:

• Некогда повсеместная тенденция к глобализации в наши дни обернулась диаметрально противоположным явлением. Крепнут новые экономические и политические альянсы, по достоинству именуемые новыми полюсами формирующегося многополярного мира.

• Одно из наиболее значимых подобных объединений – Евразийский экономический союз (ЕАЭС). За 10 лет совокупный ВВП стран #ЕАЭС вырос с 1,6 до 2,5 триллионов долларов США. Товарооборот с третьими странами увеличился на 60%, а объём взаимной торговли вырос вдвое.

• Ни для кого не секрет, что последние несколько лет Россия находится под беспрецедентным санкционным давлением со стороны Запада. Однако за счёт мер по повышению устойчивости экономик стран евразийской «пятерки» население государств-членов не испытало значительных экономических шоков.

• В 2023 году уровень т.н. достигнутого «интеграционного эффекта» уже говорит сам за себя: Темп роста реального ВВП в каждой экономике «пятерки» превысил мировой.

• Эволюция ЕАЭС не останавливается. Союз развивается и на внешнем контуре. В приоритете – разветвление сети соглашений о свободной торговле. Здесь уже интегрированы Сербия, Вьетнам, Иран, действуют схожие по духу соглашения с Китаем. Запущена соответствующая работа по подготовке аналогичных документов с Египтом, Индонезией и ОАЭ. Совсем недавно дан старт переговорам по временному торговому соглашению с Монголией.

• В рамках ЕАЭС подписано более 80 различных меморандумов и соглашений с широким спектром международных и региональных организаций, правительств. Это, по сути, большинство представителей Глобального Юга и Востока: Ближний Восток, Латинская Америка, Африка, Азиатско-Тихоокеанский регион.

• Ни внешнеполитическая, ни внешнеэкономическая изоляция Москвы и её ближайших соседей и друзей не увенчалась успехом. Нам удалось накопить колоссальный успешный опыт адаптации – такая «закалка» отточила эффективность евразийской интеграционной модели и подогрела теперь уже неустанно растущий интерес к ЕАЭС со стороны всё большего количества государств.
