Universal Basic Compute: UBI Reimagined in the Age of AI
On last week's podcast, Sam Altman proposed a spin on traditional UBI:
"Now that we see some of the ways that AI is developing ... I wonder if the future looks something more like universal basic compute than universal basic income."
"... Everybody gets a slice of GPT-7's compute, and they can use it, they can resell it, they can donate it to somebody to use for cancer research."
"What you get is not dollars but ... you own part of the productivity."

NVIDIA just casually dropped 70B model that beats GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet β and it's open source.
This model was trained on Llama-3.1-70B-Instruct using RLHF (specifically reinforce) and ready for commercial use.
Here's where you can try it for free:
1) https://huggingface.co/chat/models/nvidia/Llama-3.1-Nemotron-70B-Instruct-HF
2) https://build.nvidia.com/nvidia/llama-3_1-nemotron-70b-instruct
On Reddit, user /u/thick_llake6990 wrote a great comment on this release: "NVIDIA is in such an envious position. Make the open source models so good that all the for-profits have to order more chips to train increasingly complex models to distinguish their models to justify charging for access, and even if they don't, people still need to buy hardware to run your free model. As long as they stay on top of the custom chips for model performance and invest enough into the neuromorphic chip future, they really can't lose.β

Chinaβs second DeepSeek moment? Meet Manus, an AI agent that can think and act independently.
Just weeks after China's DeepSeek made waves in the AI world, another Chinese company, Monica, has released Manus β an AI agent that's causing a lot of excitement.
What sets Manus apart? It's designed to be a "general AI agent," meaning it can handle a wide range of complex tasks. Think of it like this: instead of just telling you how to build a website, Manus can actually build it for you, step-by-step. It can also plan detailed travel itineraries, analyze the stock market, and even create interactive lessons for teachers.
The creators claim Manus is particularly good at autonomous operation. This means you can give it a task, and it will continue working on it, even if you disconnect from the internet. It learns from your preferences over time, becoming a more personalized and efficient assistant.
Manus was even tested against a tough AI benchmark called GAIA, and it outperformed OpenAI's recent Deep Research.
Its founder studied at a smaller university, not the usual top schools like Tsinghua or Peking University. This shows a new trend in China's younger generation, with talent now coming from more diverse backgrounds
While it's currently only available through a special invitation, Manus shows the rapid progress being made in creating AI that can truly understand and interact with the world around us.

Startup ideas from $10K to $1M monthly revenue using ChatGPT 4o.
Your timeline is filled with Ghibli selfies made with ChatGPT 4o.
What you're NOT seeing is how to use 4o tech to build startups that generate INSANE value. Here's the list:
Small ($10k-50K/month potential)
1. ai poster boy - turn customer reviews, tweets, or product screenshots into high-design ad creatives, mockups, and print-style posters. $19/mo. Unfair angle: hook into Stripe/Squarespace and auto-generate ads from new customer events.
2. CPGartists - product companies describe their packaging needs, get multiple 3D mockups to test with focus groups before production. $99/design set. Saves thousands in physical prototyping costs.
3.identity kit - Upload a selfie. It creates a full identity set: LinkedIn pfp, Twitter banner, Zoom bg, business card mockup, quote graphics, etc. Basically your personal brand in a box. $59 one-time. Bundle with domain + bio.
4. visionboard ai - Describe your 1-year plan - "launch my product, speak at an event, lose 10lbs"βand it builds a visual collage of you achieving each one. $29 for a set. Reminders for motivation to keep going for $50/year. Designed for creators and founders who believe in manifesting with taste.
5. plastic ai - Plastic surgeons upload patient photos and procedure details, get realistic outcome previews for consultations. $199/month. Better patient experience by setting realistic expectations.
Medium ($100-500K/month potential)
6. product viz - Describe a product idea β get the landing page hero image, app mockup, onboarding flow, and launch tweet. The full visual stack, no designer needed. $99 for startup pack.
7. Airbnb Photo Enhancer - Property owners upload their amateur listing photos, get back professional-quality images that boost booking rates. $79/property. Targets the 7M+ Airbnb hosts worldwide. Eventually turns into a bigger software company targeting hosts.
Large ($1M+/month potential)
8. ICA (Insurance Claim Adjuster) - Process accident photos and generate comprehensive damage assessments in seconds. $99/claim. The $400B claims industry moves at the speed of human adjusters - automate it and take a mini %.
9. ComplianceCopilot - Point it at your internal documents, processes, or onboarding materials β get a real-time audit for GDPR, SOC 2, HIPAA, or ISO compliance. $1,000+/mo for SMBs. Enterprise upsell to compliance teams drowning in manual checklists. Use 4o's vision + reasoning to read like an auditor, not a chatbot.
I think the real money is in solving specific industry problems where visuals create measurable ROI.
Share these ideas and you might find a co-founder or potential customers.

π¨ Meta just released Llama 4 β their next open source push to lead the AI space.
Zuckerberg says the goal is clear: build the best AI, keep it open, and make it usable by everyone.
Two models are out now:
Llama 4 Scout:
A small and fast model that runs on just one GPU. Fully multimodal. Handles 10 million tokens. Uses 17B parameters across 16 experts. Best in class for its size.
With its 10 million token context window, Llama 4 Scout can process the text equivalent of the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy approximately 15 times in a single instance.
Llama 4 Maverick:
The more powerful version. Beats GPT-4 and Gemini Flash 2 in benchmarks. More efficient than DeepSeek V3. Still runs on a single host. Same 17B parameters, but with 128 experts. Multimodal from the start.
βLlama 4 Maverick has achieved notable rankings on LMarena, a platform that evaluates AI language models. It secured the no. 2 overall position, becoming the fourth organization to surpass a 1400+ ELO score. Specifically, Maverick is the top open model and is tied for the no.1 rank in categories such as Hard Prompts, Coding, and Math.
You can try both inside Meta AI on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, or at meta.ai.

π¨ BREAKING: OpenAI just dropped an open-source coding agent.
Codex CLI is a local tool that turns plain language into working code. You can ask it to build something, fix bugs, or explain code, and it handles it directly from your terminal.
It connects OpenAIβs latest reasoning models that were announced today β o3 and o4-mini β to your local codebase. It can write and edit code, move files, and run commands. You decide how much control it has, from just making suggestions to full automation.
It runs on your machine and keeps your code local. It still needs internet access to call OpenAIβs models using your API key β but no code leaves your machine.
Codex CLI is built for developers who already live in the terminal and want ChatGPT-level reasoning plus the power to actually run code, manipulate files, and iterate β all under version control. Itβs chat-driven development that understands and executes your repo.
And itβs fully open-source β so you can see how it works and help shape what it becomes.
