The Vatican asks not to leave Pope Leo XIV alone: we need "more voices" against the war

"The Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, warned of the risk that the “logic of the strongest” may prevail in the international scenario and invited Christians to become “voices of peace” who do not leave Pope Leo XIV alone.

In an interview granted to the cultural magazine Dialoghi, linked to Italian Catholic Action, the cardinal stated that, although the voice of the pontiffs is “prophetic,” it risks becoming “a voice crying in the desert if it is not concretely supported and helped.”

His words also offer a key to understanding the prayer vigil for peace convened by Leo XIV for April 11 in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Parolin recalled the precedent of the 2003 Iraq war, when Saint John Paul II asked to avoid the conflict, but “he was left alone.” For this reason, he insisted on the need to support the current Pontiff’s appeal for a “disarmed and disarming” peace and to reject “the false propaganda of rearmament.”

ON TRUMP-VANCE'S POLITICAL MESSIANISM

An analysis of the Trump-Vance Administration and its conflict against the Catholic Church.

The recent escalation of tension between the Donald Trump administration and the Holy See transcends mere diplomatic dispute to settle in the realm of a legitimacy crisis of power against moral law. The incident reported at the Pentagon, where the Pope's ambassador was summoned to receive a "warning" about the "military capacity of the United States" and the demand that the Church "align" with Washington's interests, represents a turning point in the relationship between the modern State and religious authority.

From the Salmantine thought grounded in philosophical realism, the exercise of political authority is only legitimate when it is ordered toward justice and the Common Good. Therefore, the assertion that a nation possesses the military power to do "whatever it wants" constitutes an explicit negation of this principle, as it affirms that brute force is the ultimate source of right. This approach is not only contrary to the tradition of Just War, but it evokes the darkest periods of history, such as the Avignon Captivity, where temporal power sought to turn the Church into an instrument of its own geopolitical will. Let us recall that it was Philip IV of France, nicknamed "the Fair," who in 1303 ordered that the elderly Pope (80 years old) Boniface VIII remain a prisoner in his own palace in Anagni, ordering that he be beaten for three days, which weeks later caused the Pope's death as a result of his wounds. The king had thus attempted to subject the Church and the Pope to his political will.

The stance of the Trump-Vance administration is a manifestation of Leviathanic "statolatry." By presenting itself as an authority that DOES NOT RECOGNIZE any higher power—neither divine nor moral—the State incurs political messianism. The Church's critique, far from being an interference in civil affairs, acts as the necessary reminder that there exists a classical hierarchy of knowledge where politics must be subordinated to ethics and this, in turn, to the eternal and immutable law.

For the Catholic, this state attitude is deeply alarming. The submission of moral conscience to military might is an inversion of the natural order. The pretension that the Catholic Church, sovereign in Christ, act as a "satellite" of the Pentagon is an act that can only be qualified as malign, as it seeks to decapitate the last instance of moral resistance against the omnipotence of the modern State. Ultimately, this confrontation reveals that the current administration not only opposes Catholicity and its foundations and majesty, but the very existence of any moral limit that stands in the way of its exercise of power.

The good: the Trump administration, finally, shows its true colors, opportunely blurred during the presidential campaign, in order to secure the all-important Catholic vote.

The problem of being stuck in the times of Covid is that many people do not stretch themselves to understand that many who were courageous heroes under Covid have turned into cowardly villains under the times of the Greater Israel expansion.
