My point: we need to oppose these hypocritical "sanctions on Russia" as they have no use in stopping wars, are generally used to start them instead, and are to all effects sanctions on us and a way to lock us out of energy and grain rendering the prices extortionate.

From 2015 but you get the idea: 35% of gas to Europe (minimum) comes from Russia. Now they want to "sanction Russia". This will raise oil and gas prices which will benefit oil and gas shareholders but will hurt the working and middle classes of our own countries, not Russia. Once again the sanctions war is against us, not Russia.

Then there's the grain and soy imports too that will be subject to scarcity and sky-rocketing prices because of the "sanctions on Russia" (they are sanctions on us of course).

My PhD was on the effectiveness of sanctions at enforcing international law: not only do they not work, they are counterproductive, in the sense that they encourage the sanctioned country (such as Russia) to commit to the behaviour that triggered the sanctions in the first place - surprise surprise!

Sanctions are essentially a feel good instrument: they are adopted so that the sanctioner can pretend it is doing something good in the world. But really they don't give a shit - it is nothing more than posturing.

Meanwhile, Canada is sanctioning protestors (asset freezes are typically employed against individuals believed to be terrorists). Go figure.

⬆️ Sanctions are as effective and counterproductive as a cloth mask against a virus: the patient is more likely to be infected by a pneumonia causing bacteria - see Fauci's paper on the Spanish Flu..diplomacy is the way out of war, but you have to listen to the other side for it to work, not cut diplomatic ties..
