The Fool "When man turns away from his Creator, his thoughts become darkened, embracing futility and self-destruction as if they were cherished virtues. The Bible says, that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but in his rejection of the one true God, a man blinds himself to the light of the Gospel and hardens his heart against the only truth that can save his soul.
By not believing in the one true God, he does not simply cease to believe in something, but opens himself up to believe in anything, or everything. Thus, he follows the same broad like so many before him have gone, raising his chin in pride refusing to heed the signs that warn of impending death and destruction ahead.
If God does not intercede, his pride will inevitably ripen into a full-throated rejection of the Divine, bearing the bitter fruit of decadence. In time, this fruit spoils on the vine, falling to the earth to rot and wither. The decay accelerates all the more in prolonged seasons of comfort and ease, where complacency breeds apathy, and cynicism suffocates self-reflection.
In the company of many, he says, ‘I am the master of my fate, and I am the captain of my soul’. The lack of judgment swells his pride and fuels his false sense of security. Like a man sleepwalking off a cliff, his waking somnambulance dulls his awareness of time and space and shields his soul from the danger ahead blindly perpetuating his bias of normalcy. He dines with folly while indulging on her fleeting pleasures. But he does not know that the dead are there, and that her guests are in the depths of hell (Prov. 9:18)."
