And … Did you know that although a referendum ended apartheid and is our constitutional and, an essential democratic right, the current government are currently denying South Africans the right to hold them!!? 😡
A majority vote in a referendum is a decision made by ALL eligible South Africans on a specific topic that government MUST OBEY!
It is not a petition which counts as a “single outcome” and is not a comment (that government can choose to ignore) made via dear SA.
Most democratic countries use referendums and Switzerland has been using them since the 16th century. They are a long established political instrument.
A referendum is the answer to bad government because it’s self governance and we, the people get to decide what we want to do and not the public servants who seem to have forgotten they work for us, and not the other way around.
We could even fire the government or some of the MPS using this device … and, maybe that’s why we have been denied the right to do so ?
Given this situation, Referendums.co.za had no choice but to set up an independent referendum.
Even though the votes in our referendum may be “unofficial” they are still legitimate as they are properly verified and can be used in court action, to pressure MPS who given the current system of governance, still need to be elected (🤢) and also, could be presented to international human rights organizations.
We spend so much time reacting to the problems caused by the current system of government that we cannot see the way out which is staring us in the face!
Self governance is the only solution to bad government!
Look at the past three years for a crystal clear example of how government and the current system has failed us and, is in fact, killing us!!
Please try to share this to inform, educate and create awareness.
