DA Leader John Steenhuisen has moved urgently to meet President Ramaphosa to re-iterate the DA's objections to the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill in its current form. The DA will also submit amendments, and urge him to send it back to Parliament.

If the President signs the Bill into law, despite the DA’s strong objections, he will violate the joint Statement of Intent, that forms the basis of the Government of National Unity.

During the negotiations, the DA made it clear that the BELA Bill was unacceptable to us in its current form, because it has constitutional implications for the right to mother-tongue education, amongst other issues.

WARNING AGAINST BELA MISINFORMATION FROM SECTION 27 AND LEGAL RESOURCES CENTRE

Two woke pro BELA Bill NGOs, Section 27 and the Legal Resources Centre have put out misleading half truth information on the BELA education bill, which is being widely shared. For example the denial of the link with sex education, abortion, denial of the threats to home education and school education. The legal resources centre has even managed to get Facebook to falsely ban this as fake news and shadow ban or page, threatening to take out down altogether. I challenge them to a radio debate on this. These groups are enemies of parents rights, religious freedom, classical liberal democracy and Christian virtues. The problem is that the way the BELA education bill threatens is is complex. Sometimes our supporters oversimplified and don't explain this correctly on social media, but that doesn't mean that it is false. It just means they don't know the correct legal words to use. In some cases these people maybe don't understand or don't care about our concerns, but given their history I expect bad faith. These are foreign funded woke enemies of the family. Remember the Section 27 helped push the Bible out of schools and the Legal Resources Centre is pushing to remove gender distinction in school bathrooms. Don't spread their lies.

We are having an impact. We are going to win. Keep fighting.

Taktiese deurbraak oor Bela!

It seems that according to SOLIDARITEIT and AFRIFORUM, the DA are not the ones who organised the delay with regard to clause 4 and 5 anyway.
